GUILTY UK - Charlotte Brown (24) Manslaughter, London, 8 Dec 2015

I did wonder if there was evidence Charlotte was driving. Given how she was scared of how fast he was going I really doubt it.

He's pure sociopath.

Isn't he. As for being suicidally depressed - I've seen his face, and it is all lies. IMO.

Ms Read was a witness at Shepherd’s trial, but her evidence was never reported at the time. She was on the balcony of her fourth-floor flat near Chelsea Harbour when she heard Shepherd’s boat making a strange ‘chugging noise’, as if it had a faulty engine.

She said: ‘It was not speeding. I would be surprised if it was going 5mph or 10mph. It sounded like there was something wrong with it. I saw one silhouette of a person.’

She saw the boat veer slowly towards a pier on the opposite side of the river. Seconds after she lost sight of it, there was a loud crash which sounded like ‘something had gone into metal’. She added that she then heard a voice ask: ‘Is there anyone else with you? Are you OK?’ There was no reply. ‘That was when I rang 999,’ she said.

[...]

Charlotte’s mother, Roz Wickens, believes the explosive new evidence demolishes Shepherd’s story – and suggests it could be proof that he staged the crash to try to cover his tracks. Speaking to this newspaper, she condemned him as ‘a weasel of a man’ trying desperately ‘to save his own skin’.

Speedboat killer Jack Shepherd's British lawyer, Richard Egan, has received a chilling death threat amidst torrents of abuse.

The letter, which tells him to "remember Jo Cox", the Labour MP murdered by far right extremist Thomas Mair, has been passed to the police.

It talks of stabbing, bombing, features a swastika and the words "Heil Hitler".

Former Lord Chief Justice, Lord Thomas, says the letter represents an attack on the rule of law.

Speedboat killer Jack Shepherd has written a letter to his victim’s family in which he claims to reveal what really happened on the night of Charlotte Brown’s death.

[...]

Miss Brown’s father Graham said last night: ‘I’ve heard nothing about any letter, but in any case the time to have answered what happened to Charlotte that night was at his trial – which he was absent from. I do not welcome or seek any contact from Shepherd.’

[...]

He supplied a fake address in Tbilisi and police sources say they are still trying to find out where he was living.

Speedboat killer Jack Shepherd's lawyer in Georgia says she will fight attempts to extradite him back to the UK.

[...]

In an interview with the BBC, Mrs Kublashvili said: "What happened, in the river of Thames, is not a crime by Georgian law.

"If their behaviour which the person made or did not make, is not in Georgian law a crime, the person must be not extradited.

"He prefers to serve his sentence in Georgia. For him it is better to stay here if it is possible."

#JackShepherd Back in court in Tbilisi for start of extradition hearing. Shepherd gives judge a false address when asked where he’s been living in the Georgian capital. The address doesn’t exist.

#JackShepherd Shepherd in the dock in Tbilisi for extradition hearing.

#JackShepherd Shepherd politely tells Tbilisi judge he does not want to be extradited to the UK.

Shepherd’s lawyer tells judge he should not be extradited because he has been told he would be in danger in a UK jail.

Defence says it still hasn’t had the full extradition papers from the UK. Still maintains the speedboat crash in which Charlotte Brown died was an accident. He was convicted only because he was the boat owner.

Shepherd’s words to extradition judge: “Thank you for explaining the procedure, but I wish to decline.”

Judge tells Shepherd his remarks will he sent to the Justice Ministry. Hearing is over. Shepherd to stay in Tbilisi prison.

Prosecutor told judge there was no demand for a fast-track extradition.

I thought there was pretty much no publicity in this case until after his conviction. Whatever way you look at it, there's some messed up logic here from JS's lawyer:

The lawyer accused the UK government and politicians of making Shepherd look like "a serial criminal and dangerous person", and that he would "have problems in a British prison".

When it was asserted that he was a criminal under UK law, having been convicted of manslaughter, she said: "He's not a criminal because he did not want this unfortunate incident [to happen]."

She also told Victoria Derbyshire that her client had a "complex" psychological state and that there was "reason to believe that it has emerged he was suffering from acute depression".

Mrs Kublashvili added: "He was in shock and agony after the witch-hunt from the tabloid press, from the injustice [of his UK conviction] and above all because of the tragedy that has happened," she added - saying that she wanted to "invite international experts" to assess him.

Speedboat lawyer may agree to extradition

On the face of it Jack Grant appeared to be something of a web genius, with vast experience at companies such as Apple not to mention the directorship of his own digital business.

Yet, as has transpired with many aspects of this sorry tale, nothing was quite as it seemed.

Grant, it is understood, was actually Jack Shepherd, the speedboat killer who compounded his crime by spending ten months on the run in Georgia, accusing his victim’s father of threatening him and vowing to avoid extradition.

This latest twist means the 31-year-old could face fresh prosecution and further jail time over claims he used a false identity in a company set up before he fled the country.

Documents filed with Companies House suggest that Shepherd was operating under the pseudonym for several months in the UK as he sought work after being charged with the manslaughter by gross negligence of Charlotte Brown, 24, and his real identity was widely publicised, the Telegraph understands.

This is from today, I'd assumed this was done ages ago. Not sure why a supposed alcohol dependency should be a consideration either.
________________

Prosecutors have filed a request with authorities in Georgia to extradite Jack Shepherd, who was found guilty in his absence last year of the negligent manslaughter of a woman in a boat crash.

[...]

The court also heard Shepherd had an alcohol dependency and wanted to conduct an appeal against his conviction from Georgia.

The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed it had prepared a request which has been sent to Georgian authorities by the Home Office.

It is unclear when the request was formally submitted.

Shepherd said he agreed to his return because he wishes to take part in an appeal against his conviction.

His lawyers tried to insist on a five demands to ensure his "safety" once he is back in Britain.

[...]

The proposals were dismissed by the judge, who said he could only deal with the extradition itself.

Shepherd, 31, pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey to breaching bail and absconding and was sent to prison to begin his six-and-a-half-year sentence.

Judge Richard Marks said: "Charlotte's family were, of course, devastated by the circumstances by which she met her death, and those feelings were greatly exacerbated by the fact you chose to go on the run.

"Your conduct in absenting yourself from justice for so long was as cowardly as it was selfish."
