I will share my tentative ID of Christina 'Licorice' McKechnie with everyone here in the WS community, so you can take a look as well and see what you think. The unidentified person I found on DoeNetwork, is 551UFCA, discovered on 10 Feb 1997, in Palm Desert, Riverside, California. This unidentified woman was found by construction workers in 1997. Her death appears to be a natural one, from heart disease possibly. Found with this unidentified woman was a notebook, in which there was supposedly a 'love letter' that was written in Scottish Gaelic. The only person I can think of off hand, who would have known how to speak and write in Scottish Gaelic, is Christina McKechnie. That was the major clue for me. I also do not think that was a 'love letter', though it may have been. I think it is more like a poem or even song lyrics. It makes more logical sense, to me. Everything else seems to fit.
I ran this by the DoeNetwork representative for Southern California, and she told me to submit it, asap. I did so and the reply was, that they have not received this match before, and will be working on it, since it appears to be a possible match. I can only wait with baited breath, I suppose. As I stated above, I am so conflicted. I do and don't want my tentative ID to be correct! I would rather that Christina McKechnie be with us still. She was a very talented musician and poet, and I remember listening to her band, The Incredible String Band in the late 1960's and 1970's, when I was young. On the other hand, I want more than anything, to give her surviving family the answers they have been looking for. I never put much stock into the rumour that Christina was last seen 'hitch-hiking across the Arizona desert'. It's a lovely and romantic rumour, but I think it is just that. If my ID is correct, we can finally solve the mystery of what happened to Christina 'Licorice' McKechnie.
