It's mentioned she has access to a van, which I take to mean they haven't located it.
Surely they would have located it by now if she had say, succumbed to a wild swim, as they knew the general area where she had been and the vehicle wouldn't have moved.
In the absence of the van, she must have moved on.
Given her seemingly nomadic lifestyle I can see that this could be one that just never get's resolved.

I just can’t get over how those last seen cctv photos look so, so different to any of the other photos we’ve seen of her. I would not think they were the same person. To me, she looks quite unwell and unkempt in those cctv images.

I fear is it coincidence the missing Hungarian sisters, Amanda from Hull and this lady all went missing on Tuesday. January a tricky month for many.
Hope they are all safe and warm somewhere and just taking time out
MOO
I think Jan 7th is the same day Heni & Eliza went missing.

Family and friends stated on the police Facebook post that the van was located early on near the ferry terminal, and all of her belongings were inside.

I’ve had a look back through and I can’t find the answer, but do we know where these 2 cctv images are from? Certainly, in the one where she is looking at the camera, she doesn’t look happy.

As for the suggestion she is a wild swimmer and may have gone for a swim, I’m a wild swimmer and I would swim year round. But certainly, in January, even with my van parked up nearby, I would be taking a noticeable amount of stuff with me onto to the beach. A swim robe, towel(s), bag or I’d take a high viz tow float to put my keys in, probably crocs to change out of water shoes after. Like it would be a pile of stuff. Even if abandoned and the tide came in and took it, it would wash back up eventually. Also swimmers swimming alone this time of year probably won’t go far. I would think something would have washed up by now to indicate she was in the water. MOO

Just across the channel from where Claire was.

A body has been recovered off the coast of Iona, Police Scotland has confirmed.

Emergency services were alerted shortly before 1.45pm on Tuesday September 23.

Officers attended after receiving reports that a body had been found in the waters near the island, which lies off the south-west coast of Mull.

A police spokesperson said: “Around 1.45pm on Tuesday 23 we were made aware a body had been recovered off the coast of Iona.

Sad news for whoever it is, but I can't think how it could possibly be Claire.
It's been over 9 months since she was last seen and there's no chance a body could have been in the water that long. Iona (and Fionnphort) are sparsely populated areas, everyone who lives there knows everybody else. It wouldn't be possible to live there for 9 months without anyone local noticing.

Still no identity for the body that was found

It looks as though Claire bought the van in December 2022. It's still on the DVLA database so hasn't been sold or scrapped but has been SORNed, ie declared that it is being kept at a place off the public highway. This may mean that it was returned to Claire's family and that they are storing it at their home in a continuing hope that she will reappear one day, or that they are in denial about her likely death.

Anyone who wants to see the information on the DVLA database for themselves can enter the vehicle registration number here:

Thinking about this case some more, I've read through most of the press items available but have learned absolutely nothing about Claire or her circumstances.

In 2022 she bought a 20 year old white Transit-based van which is described in most press reports as a camper van but I haven't seen a photo of the vehicle anywhere.

It's therefore not clear whether this vehicle had originally been built as a camper van or properly converted to camper use, eg https://www.autotrader.co.uk/motorhome-details/202512288815765?advertising-location=at_motorhomes.

On the other hand, it may simply have been the sort of Transit van that has traditionally been bought for commercial use by tradesmen and hammered into the ground with a very high mileage before being sold off cheap. If this is the case she probably paid very little for it and it may not have been in particularly good condition when she bought it, although it managed to pass its annual MOT test and remain on the road. In this case Claire may simply have had an inflatable mattress, a sleeping bag and some rudimentary cooking facilities in the back of it.

We don't know whether she was effectively permanently on the road or took off during holidays and leave from work. If the former, how was she funding her travels and what was she living on? If the latter, what work did she do? Has she ever worked in practice? Did she pick up seasonal work in tourist areas, eg bars, hotels or waitressing, or do WWOOFing or busking/begging? Or did she just bum about scraping a living on benefits?

I haven't seen any family members named. There have been comments from "the family" but who are they?

TBH, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Claire had longstanding and significant mental health problems.

I still feel the most likely explanation is that Claire went in for a swim and got into difficulty. The current between Mull and Iona is very strong.

If the unidentified body is not Claire's then I wonder who it could be.

I wouldn't rule that out, but nor would I rule out suicide. Claire's seemingly very solitary and aimless lifestyle doesn't strike me as being one a mentally healthy person would choose. She also looks really gaunt, and possibly malnourished, in the CCTV image of her in which she is looking up at the camera. Either way, not healthy and not stable.

So yes, she could have gone for a swim with no intention of ending her life but then got into difficulty. That could have been due to the current, the cold or simply not being as strong as she thought she was.

On the other hand, if she was a keen open water swimmer she might have chosen that as her means of suicide - swim as far as she could and then let the sea take her.

It's worth remembering that more than 70% of cases of missing people in the UK have a mental health element to them.
