Colin was last seen at his home address in the village of Thornton Le Street on Thursday 03 March 2022.

Colin’s vehicle remains at his home address and we believe that he has left home on foot. He was last seen wearing a white checked shirt, green country-style trousers and a thin brown jumper.

Extensive resources have been allocated in the search to find Colin over the last few days. We have used a police drone to allow us to view aerial footage of vast open areas. Specialist support units which include the National Police Air Service helicopter (NPAS), search dogs, volunteer mountain rescue teams and a police underwater search unit have all been deployed.

The focus of the search is fields and open areas in the vicinity of the village of Thornton Le Street.

Acting Critical Incident Inspector Tom Collins from North Yorkshire Police said: “We are extremely concerned for Colin’s welfare. I urge anyone who is in the Thornton Le Street area to be vigilant and to report any immediate sightings of anyone matching Colin's description to 999.

Yesterday I spent a few hours, walking my dog in the fields between Cod Beck and the motorway, which is only 1.3km SE of the village ( as the crow flies)

I was a little way from the village itself, but reckoned the areas close to the village would have been quite well searched already.

His vehicle is at home so he’s presumed to have left on foot. I’ve seen no comments relating to this gentleman’s health ( physical, mental or cognitive) & no mention of a dog/dog walking.

I walked the fields and banks of Cod Beck,
on the opposite side from the village, scanning the area with binoculars & checking ditches & undergrowth. The ground was quite water-logged.

The beck was full compared to normal ( I assume). We’ve had a lot of rain & the water was discoloured. Lot of debris……fallen logs/branches from the recent storms…..collecting on the many bends, partially blocking the stream in places.

It didn’t look particularly deep or fast-flowing, but hard to gauge depth when the water is brown.

The banks were eroded & slightly overhanging in places….checked both sides of the stretch I walked.

Didn’t see anyone else searching, though there was a small plane buzzing overhead the whole time I was there & passed a police van.

Hoping for the best for this gentleman.

How very sad. My condolences to his family & neighbours.

Rest in Peace Sir.

As I said in my post above, the banks looked rather treacherous following recent heavy rain. I’m sure this was a tragic accident.

I suspect he was caught up under debris in the beck, otherwise he would have been located quickly.
