The brother of a man who was living in Preston, and went missing in Lancaster says the speculation, hearsay and rumour around his disappearance is careless and hurtful.

A search for missing 28-year-old Daniel Hives has been conducted by underwater diving experts in the River Lune. Daniel was last seen on December 10, 2022, in City View, Sidings Close. Despite a public appeal and pleas from family and friends, he has not been seen since.

Daniel's brother Robbie welcomed the team's efforts, stating that although Daniel was not found, it could open other potential search areas or leads related to his disappearance.

Robbie told us:

"Having all these random messages from people saying you're never going to find him, he's dead' of all these fake accounts and stuff it puts it into your head and then you've got to be tray and smart about it and think 'don't listen to those people' but then go and follow it up.

"I didn't want to believe it at first, when all these rumours started, that something has happened, but as times gone on it has set a different kind of mood and it has become more realistic that these things have happened to him."

Due to the river's proximity, the voluntary underwater sonar search and recovery dive team 'Beneath The Surface' conducted searches in several areas of the water over the weekend. Unfortunately, no signs of Daniel were found. The team now plans to identify and locate any other potential search areas.

This weekend we have been back out in Lancaster searching sections of the River Lune for any signs of Daniel Hives.

The tide was out and river levels were extremely low which helped us to check the river bed in most likely areas quickly.

We didn't locate any sign of Daniel.

We'd like to ask everyone to continue to be aware and to keep an eye out for any possible sign of what may have happened to Daniel.

We urge anyone with information about what happened to Daniel to contact Lancashire Police. If you was in the area of the Millennium bridge, Lancaster on 10th December please check any possible CCTV, dashcam and doorbell footage. If you saw anything no matter how insignificant it may seem please come forward.

It is now more than five months since Daniel Hives went missing in Lancaster and we continue to appeal for information in our search for him.

Daniel, 29, was last seen on the evening of Saturday, December 10 last year.

He had left an address in City View, Sidings Close, Lancaster, close to the River Lune and hasn’t been seen since.

Since Daniel’s disappearance, we have searched the river and surrounding area extensively.

The Lancashire Police Dogs unit, the Drone Team and the North West Underwater Search and Marine Unit, have been supported by Lancaster Area Search and Rescue, the National Police Air Service and search dogs from Lancashire Fire and Rescue, in the search.

Daniel is 6ft tall, of slim build, with short brown hair. The night he went missing, he was wearing a blue Hugo Boss tracksuit and black trainers.

Detective Inspector Adie Knowles of Lancaster CID said: “Despite an extensive investigation and search, we do not know the whereabouts of Daniel.

“It is now six months since he was last seen and his family and friends are rightly very concerned about him.

“We have carried out an extensive search of the area over the last few months and conducted an investigation in our attempts to find Daniel.

“That investigation is continuing, and we renew our appeal for anyone with information about Daniel’s disappearance to contact us.

“We ask again for anyone who was in the area of Sidings Close around 9.30pm on December 10, 2022, to come forward.

“Do you have dashcam footage from the area around the time of Daniel going missing?”

Today marks 1 year since Daniel Hives vanished approximately 9:30pm near Sidings Close in Lancaster.

Our thoughts are with Daniel's family and friends as they continue to hope for answers of where Daniel is

If anyone was driving or walking in the area on the evening of Saturday 10th December 2022 and possibly saw Daniel that night, or has any information about Daniels whereabouts we urge you to come forward. This can be done anonymously.

Daniel's loved ones just want to find him and get closure. Please help if you can. No piece of information is too small.

I know Daniel brother has been contacted about these human remains found in Silverdale Morecambe Bay.
Very possible it could be Dan or the remaining missing cockle picker from the 2004 Morecambe Bay disaster, or possibly soneone else.
