Police looking for missing Rudgwick man, David Cairns, have issued a CCTV image of him close to the garage in Broadbridge Heath where he was last seen on Saturday (October 26).

David, 68, left home a few minutes after 8am to take his car to Broadbridge Heath Garage on the Lawson Hunt Industrial Park. He dropped the car off at 8.45am and left as it was going to take a while to deal with.

David is white, 6', of large build with white/grey hair and wears glasses. He was wearing a grey sweatshirt, blue jeans, a navy blue sleeveless puffer jacket and grey shoes.

Awful isn’t it, I just checked how long he has been missing for it’s been three months almost to the day.

It's terrible. I can't understand how he wasn't found sooner. I have attached a map of the cut-through path that he was found next to, between Old Wickhurst Lane and Sargent Way in Broadbridge Heath. I can't understand why he wasn't found sooner. Although it's not a proper road, it is still in quite a populated area with lots of houses at one end and a large Tesco Extra near the other. You would think a reasonable number of people would be using that path. I guess if he had a medical episode or something and then fell into some dense bushes or long grass he may have been easily missed.

I'm glad they found him eventually.

Thanks for the map, it certainly puts things into perspective, I agree with you that it’s certainly not desolate or out of the way, plenty of people around and about, must have been in the hedges or undergrowth, maybe had a medical episode, like you said. Three months missing though, grim surprise for the usual member of the public, probably a dog walker, usually is.

Sadly, we believe that the body of a man found at Broadbridge Heath last week is that of missing David Cairns from Rudgwick who had been missing since October 26. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time. socsi.in/AWRC9"
