Police searching for missing student Emmanuel Chikwa have issued new CCTV image as they continue to appeal for information.


The 18-year-old was reported missing to police on Friday 1 April.

Following further enquiries, officers have now released a new image of Emmanuel which shows him walking near to the suspension bridge in Chester City Centre at 2.44am on Monday 28 March.

In the CCTV image he is wearing a distinctive dark coloured jacket with a white stripe across the chest and his left arm.

Emmanuel, who is originally from Sheffield, is described as black, 5' 7" tall, of a slight build with a shaven head and wears glasses.

He was last seen wearing a dark coloured jacket, a grey t-shirt, black trousers and black shoes.

Detective Sergeant Simon Owen said: “Officers have been out and about across the city continuing the search for Emmanuel.

"This is extremely out of character for Emmanuel and we are concerned for his welfare.

"We have been following a number of enquiries which has resulted in a further CCTV image of Emmanuel which shows him walking through the city centre in the early hours of 28 March.

“With this new sighting, we now know Emmanuel was wearing a distinctive jacket so I would appeal to anyone who may have seen him, or someone who matching his description to please get in touch.

"The same goes to anyone with CCTV in and around the suspension bridge area of Chester along with dashcam and smart doorbell footage as this may help us.

“I'm also continuing to appeal directly to Emmanuel, please contact us to let us know that you are safe and well.”

Anyone within any information in relation to the whereabouts of Emmanuel asked to contact Cheshire Police via the website or call 101, quoting IML 1235742.

Emmanual Chikwa was last seen on Sunday, March 27 near his address in the Parkgate Road area of Chester before he was reported missing to the police on Friday, April 1.

Originally from the Sheffield area, the 18-year-old is black, of a slight build, has a shaved head and wears glasses. When he was last seen, he was wearing a grey coloured T-shirt and black trousers.

Officers from Cheshire Constabulary are appealing for public's help to find him as they are becoming increasingly concerned for his welfare.

Detective Constable Kelly Birch said: “We are becoming increasingly concerned for the welfare of Emmanuel and officers have been carrying out a number of enquiries since he was reported missing to us.

“We have been out and about searching for Emmanuel and now know that he visited Aldi on Parkgate Road at around midday on 27 March.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have CCTV in and around the Parkgate Road area on that day along with dashcam and smart doorbell footage to assist us in finding Emmanuel.

“I would urge anyone who thinks that they may have seen him since he went missing to please come forward.

Here is some info and a map of where the bridge is. I've been there myself on many occasions, lovely place. There is a weir not far downstream from the Queens Park Suspention bridge before the river gets deeper an goes under the old Handbidge and then under the Grosvenor Bridge and past the Racecourse.

Police divers have been searching the River Dee as part of their ongoing efforts to find a missing University of Chester student.An underwater search team has been scouring the area around the suspension bridge in Chester.It comes after missing Emmanuel Chikwa was spotted on CCTV walking near the bridge at 2.44am on Monday 28 March. The 18-year-old went missing from his home address in the Parkgate Road area on 27 March.

Officers confirmed that Emmanuel, originally from Sheffield, had been seen at the Aldi store on Parkgate Road at around 12pm on that day. On Wednesday 6 April, police divers were out on the River Dee before ending their search shortly after 1pm.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "Police, assisted by the Underwater Search Team, are continuing with their efforts in searching for missing 18-year-old Emmanuel Chikwa in the suspension bridge area of Chester."

A search effort is underway to find a Sheffield teenager who was last seen 11 days ago in Chester.

Emmanuel Chikwa was last spotted on CCTV walking near the River Dee suspension bridge on Monday, March 28 at 2.44am.

The 18-year-old University of Chester student, who is reportedly originally from Sheffield, went missing from his home address in the Parkgate Road area on March 27 but officers have since confirmed that Emmanuel had been seen at the Aldi store on Parkgate Road at around 12pm on that day.

The force have searched the River Dee on Wednesday (April 6) but the search ended shortly before 1pm reports Cheshire Live.

Sadly, officers searching for missing student Emmanuel Chikwa discovered a body in the River Dee near to The Groves in Chester City Centre this afternoon.
Formal identification has not yet taken place. However, the body is believed to be that of Emmanuel Chikwa.
The family of the 18-year-old, who is originally from Sheffield, have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Police searching for a missing 18-year-old student have discovered a body in Chester.

The body was found in the River Dee near to The Groves in the city centre earlier this afternoon, Sunday 10 April.

Police have said formal identification has not yet taken place.

However, it is believed to be that of student Emmanuel Chikwa, who was reported missing on Friday 1 April.

A police spokesperson said: “The family of the 18-year-old, who is originally from Sheffield, have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.”

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a case file will be prepared for the coroner.”

“Officers would like to thank members of the public for their support during the search for Emmanuel and request that his family’s privacy be respected at this difficult time.”
