Dr Dixon confirmed this was indicative of rib fractures which had not yet healed, adding that the “movement” of the fractured area would have caused “pain”.
As Finley’s health declined further and he developed pneumonia the doctor added that would have caused more discomfort due to his rib fractures.
She said: “I would expect him to be in a lot of pain and to not want to feed – I would expect breathing to be uncomfortable and he would not enjoy playing.”
The trial continues.

Shannon Marsden was seen “ripping her hair out in chunks” after being physically-removed from the resuscitate room when baby Finley Boden was rushed to hospital on Christmas Day, 2020.
A nurse told Derby Crown Court that after being told the toddler had died Marsden was seen “cradling him very gently” and kissing his face.

Today a trial jury at Derby Crown Court heard statements from officers on duty who saw the dreadful state of the property where Finley spent the last few weeks of his life.
One said: “I was unable to get up and down the stairs safely due to the clutter - there was a strong smell of cannabis and animal faeces in the property.
“The kitchen sides were covered in pots, food and containers - leaving no clean surfaces to prepare food and bottles.
“The living room was cluttered with clothing and rubbish such as empty energy drink cans.

The officer stated: “Boden was mentioning things like going and getting some prosecco and that it’s been a long time since he was in the back of a police car.
“Shannon appeared more upset and was quiet at the start of the journey - there was an overwhelming smell of cannabis.
“The conversation seemed very strange and I kept looking at (my colleague), who appeared to be thinking the same.
“Boden didn’t seem upset or emotionally-distressed about the loss of the baby at all.”

That guy sounds like a massive piece of work. And she just seemed to go along with it. Could they not even clean the house like there's lazy parenting and then there's this. If you don't want the child someone will happily look after him. By the injuries it sounds like he was just completey abused and neglected without a care in the world given

Jobless Stephen Boden said the ten-month-old boy was wheezing, spluttering, had a high temperature and "runny eyes."

Derby Crown Court heard that Finley Boden was ten-months-old and had 57 fractures among 130 injuries when he died on Christmas Day 2020. A doctor said the injuries could have been caused up to a fortnight earlier.
