Officers in the Highlands are appealing for help to trace a missing hillwalker in the Sutherland area.

Finn Creaney, 32, from the Tain area, was last seen around 2.15pm on Friday, 25 March, 2022, having been dropped off at Loch Naver on the B873 public road in Sutherland to start his planned walking route.

He planned to walk the route around Loch Naver and South to Golspie, where his vehicle was situated.

Searches are ongoing in the area with the assistance of Assynt MRT and coastguard helicopter.

Finn is described as 5ft 11in tall, of slim build with light complexion and freckles on his arms and nose. He has long brown hair down to his lower back and a full brown beard which is short in length.

He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, a long brown leather jacket which goes down to his knees, dark coloured trousers, brown waterproof boots and was carrying a green rucksack.

Sergeant Mike Gallie, of Easter Ross and Sutherland Policing Team, said: “We are growingly increasingly concerned for Finn as this is out of character for him.

“I would urge anyone who believes they may have seen Finn or spoken to him at any time since he was last seen in the area to get in touch with officer.

“Anyone with information should call 101, quoting reference 0912 of 28 March.”

Police in the Highlands are continuing extensive searches to trace 32-year-old hillwalker Finn Creaney.

Finn, from the Tain area, was last seen around 2.15pm on Friday, 25 March, having been dropped off at Loch Naver, on the B873 public road in Sutherland, to start his planned walking route around the Loch and south to Golspie.

Officers are continuing to search the area between Altnaharra and Golspie in Sutherland, with the support of a number of partner agencies, including mountain rescue and coastguard.

Finn is described as 5ft 11, slim build, with light complexion and freckles on his arms and nose. He has long brown hair down to his lower back and a full brown beard which is short in length.

He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, a knee-length brown leather jacket, dark coloured trousers, brown waterproof boots and was carrying a green rucksack.

Inspector Alasdair Goskirk said: “As time passes, our concern for Finn’s welfare continues to grow.

“We are thankful for the support we have received in our efforts to trace him and continue to appeal for anyone who believes they may have seen or spoken with him in recent days to urgently come forward

Rescue teams find no sign of missing Scots hillwalker after second day of search

Friends and family of missing man Finn Creaney are appealing to experienced walkers to help find him.

The search for Mr Creaney is now into its fifth day, with police, coastguards and mountain rescue teams involved in a multi agency search.

The 32-year-old from Tain was last seen around 2.15pm on Friday March 25, having been dropped off at Loch Naver on the B873 public road in Sutherland. He intended to walk around the loch and south to Golspie where his car was parked.

Searches have been focused in the area between Altnaharra and Golspie, and friends and family of Mr Creaney have gotten involved to increase efforts.

They are now appealing to experienced walkers and people with good local knowledge to help in the search.

A search party will meet at Scibberscross between 9 and 9.30am on Thursday morning.

In a post on Facebook, Dean Kernaghan, a friend of Mr Creaney, wrote: “Mountain search and rescue along with police coordination and RAF helicopters, as well as sniffer dogs and drones have been searching tirelessly in the Altnaharra area and North Golspie.

“Unfortunately we don’t have any further updates on direction he has taken or how far he may have travelled.

“We are appealing for experienced walkers and people with good local knowledge of the areas mentioned to join a search party tomorrow starting at Scibberscross 09:00 – 09.30am.”

Police have drafted in a helicopter to help search for a missing hillwalker in the Highlands.

Finn Creaney, 32, from the Tain area, was last seen at around 2.15pm on Friday, March 25.

Police say that Mr Creaney planned to walk the route around Loch Naver and South to Golspie where his vehicle was situated.

Searches are ongoing in the area with the assistance of Assynt MRT and on Thursday morning, the Police Scotland Air Unit confirmed it has launched a helicopter to join the hunt.

In a statement released today, Finn’s wife Lucy said: “I would like to thank family, friends and the local community for all their help, concern and support over the last few days. It is a really worrying time for me and our four-year-old daughter, Luna.

“I am really concerned for Finn as it has now been seven days since we last saw him.

“I want appeal to anyone who may have seen Finn since last Friday to call the police and ask anyone walking in the area and hills between Altnaharra and Golspie that they keep an eye out for Finn and keep him in their thoughts.

“I would also ask that our privacy is respected at this difficult time.”

Inspector Alasdair Goskirk said: “Our concerns for Finn’s safety and welfare continues to grow. Extensive searches and enquiries have been carried out in an effort to trace Finn.

“I know our concerns are shared by locals and we are grateful for the assistance we have received so far.

A MOUNTAIN rescue team which has been involved in an extensive search for an Easter Ross man posted missing last month has issued an appeal to the public.

Finn Creaney (32) was last seen in Sutherland on Friday, March 25.

Several appeals have since been issued for help to trace Finn who is from Tain in Easter Ross.

He was dropped off at Loch Naver, on the B873 public road in Sutherland, to start his planned walking route around the loch and south to Golspie.

Amongst those involved in the subsequent search are volunteers with Assynt Mountain Rescue Team (MRT).

It was posted on Monday of last week by Police Scotland to search for the overdue walker between the north side of Loch Naver and Golspie.

Assisted by Coastguard helicopter Rescue 151 from Inverness, an extensive search using team members, drones and SARDA dogs has followed.

The team posted: "The search has now continued into a sixth day with assistance from SARDA dogs, Rescue 151, team and SARAA drones, Coastguard, RAF MRT, Dundonnell MRT and two Police Scotland MRTs.

The family of Finn Creaney have continued their desperate appeal for information 10 days on from the missing Scots hillwalker's disappearance.

The keen hiker was due to walk around the loch and south to Golspie - but the dad-of-one hasn't been seen since.

We previously told how Finn's wife Lucy said the past week has been 'a really worrying time' for her and their four-year-old daughter Luna.

This morning Lucy shared a family appeal asking residents in the Sutherland and Caithness areas to continue the search.

They asked locals to check outbuildings and share pictures of Finn with anyone living in the area.

The post from sister-in-law Heidi Sews said: "Please share these photos with anyone living in the Sutherland and Caithness/Northern areas. (Highlands of Scotland). Also with the locals without internet.

"You may have seen him walking somewhere along roads or hill paths. Please check your outbuildings.

"Ask the gamekeepers, the farmers, crofters, estate owners.

"He was wearing a long dark green/brown leather jacket, possibly wearing a green hooded poncho over it, brown boots and a green rucksack. He has no dogs with him and is travelling alone."

The search for a missing man from the Highlands is continuing two weeks on from his disappearance.

Finn Creaney was last seen at around 2.15pm on Friday, March 25, after being dropped off at Loch Naver, on the B873 public road in Sutherland.

The 32-year-old, from Tain, was in the area to start his planned walking route around the loch and south to Golspie.

But he never returned home and has not been in touch with any friends or family since.

On Friday police issued a renewed appeal in their bid to trace him.

Chief Inspector Kevin Macleod said : “It is almost two weeks since Finn went missing and his family remain greatly concerned.

“It is obvious from the response we have had that there is great concern in the community for Finn’s well-being.

A Scots dad has made a desperate plea to help "bring his son home" nearly three months on from his disappearance.

Hillwalker Finn Creaney, from the Tain area of the Highlands, was last seen around 2.15pm on Friday, March 25, having been dropped off at Loch Naver, on the B873 public road in Sutherland.

The hiker, 32, was due to start his planned walking route around the loch and south to Golspie.

The dad-of-one only had a water bottle, knife and blanket poncho with him - and he hasn't been seen since.

Officers have carried out a number of searches by land, sea and air in a bid to find Finn - while rescue dogs have also been deployed.

The family say Finn was "of sound mind and the happiest he's ever been" before disappearing and his dad Mark Creaney is continuing to appeal for information.

In a post on the UK Bushcraft and Wild Camping Facebook page, Mark said: "My son Finn Creaney went missing after starting a hike almost three months ago, he is a keen outdoorsman and bushcrafter.

"He took only minimal items (water bottle, knife and blanket poncho) on what was to be a three day hike.

"As part of the wider bushcraft/outdoor community I hope folk will share this was widely as you can.
