An area behind Tesco in Beaumont Leys was cordoned off as part of the investigation, but that scene has since been lifted.

Water searches have been ongoing in the Groby Pool area on Tuesday.

Det Insp Laura Sanderson from the force's missing person's operation team, said: "As time goes by we are growing increasingly concerned for Gabriela's welfare.

"Since she was last seen in Fosse Road North there have been no further sightings of her.

Gabriela Kosilko, 26, vanished shortly after working a shift in Leicester last month. She was last seen buying some food and drinks at a shop in Fosse Road North at around 11.30pm on Thursday, 31 August).

Her red Audi A1 was found empty and parked to the side of a country road.

A BODY has been found in the search for a Leicester woman who vanished last week.

Gabriela Kosilko, 26, was reported missing on Friday after failing to come home from work the previous evening.

A body was recovered yesterday afternoon in woodland in the Groby Pool area, which lies north west of the East Midlands city.

Formal identification is yet to take place, but the body is believed to be that of Ms Kosilko.

A 30-year-old man arrested on suspicion of kidnap was further arrested on suspicion of murder.

While being held in police custody, the man was found unresponsive in his cell on Wednesday morning.

Despite the efforts of custody staff, he was later pronounced dead.

His death will now be subject to an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), with Leicestershire Police saying it is fully cooperating with it. Investigations into Gabriela’s death are ongoing according to Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sinski from East Midlands Special Operations Unit Murder Investigation Team.

Det Chief Insp Sinski said: “Our enquiries into the circumstances surrounding Gabriela’s death continue and anyone who may have any information is asked to get in touch. If you were driving along Newtown Linford Lane around 2.20pm on Friday (September 1) please check your dashcam footage and get in touch if you captured a red Audi A1 parked on the side of the road or saw anyone driving it or sitting in the vehicle.

"Equally, if you were in Ratby Lane area during Friday afternoon please get in touch if you saw the vehicle or anything which seemed unusual or caused you concern.”

Detective Chief Inspector Sinski also said that all scene preservation as part of the investigation has been lifted. Officers will remain in the area though while enquiries continue.

He said: “We would also like to reassure the local community who have been affected by the events of the last few days that officers will remain in the area while further enquiries are conducted.” Anyone with information should call Leicestershire Police on 101, 484 of September 1. “We chatted for about ten minutes and it all looked great for her. She can never stop smiling and joking. She’s very chatty to us and is our best customer.”

In a statement, the IOPC said it would look into all procedures undertaken at Keyham Lane. A spokesperson said: “We have started an independent investigation following the death on Wednesday (September 6) of a man who was in police custody in Leicester.

"We understand the man, believed to be aged 30, was initially arrested by Leicestershire Police [on Monday, September 4] on suspicion of kidnap and taken to Keyham Lane Police Station. We have been told that at around 10am on Wednesday the man was found unresponsive in his cell and death was pronounced there a short time later."

“After we were notified by Leicestershire Police we sent investigators to the police station", the IOPC said, to begin the "post-incident procedure", which involves "gathering evidence including custody footage and some initial accounts from officers and staff." It added: "We declared an independent investigation shortly before 12.30pm the same day.”
