''Technological advances mean they can now use genetic clues to look for potential relatives of the culprit.

Cops compiled a list of 200 people with possible genetic matches and hope one will produce a family tie to the killer.

Now in a statement posted on a Facebook page dedicated to securing justice for George and his family, campaigners told of the £10,000 incentive.''

''And Alex admitted: “My throat still gets a little bit lumpy when I think about him dying and shouting for help. And nobody there to really help him.”

Cheese wire murder victim's family urge killer's relatives to come forward with DNA

[snip..... Police investigating the unsolved case found 200 possible DNA matches as they hope to establish any family link to a profile from the scene. But his family fear relatives who suspect a now deceased family member won't come forward for genetic testing.]

[snip.... "The police had an initial list of 200 people and they have been diligently knocking on doors. "There are some people holding out on giving their DNA and we would really urge them to think of us."]

''Police have been investigating the murder of George Murdoch, who was attacked with a cheese wire in his taxi, for more than 40 years. But on Thursday they made a breakthrough in the case.Authorities said that with advancement in forensic technology, they've identified 200 possible genetic matches to a DNA profile recovered from the scene of the crime, and are closer to finding the suspect. Mr Murdoch's nephew, Alec McKay says the family were "thrilled" with the DNA breakthrough, and that he has "never ever given up hope". Sky's Scotland Correspondent Connor Gillies has more on the story.''

Bizarre and horrific case.

George was described as a friendly, peaceful man by his family. He would of not put-up resistance if this was a robbery.

This also doesn’t match the scenario that he and the killer got into a heated argument which led to the altercation.

However, if the two above are ruled out, it’s hard to pinpoint the motive.

It was a drawn-out murder, which spilled out onto the street. The culprit’s intention was to murder George obviously. He may well have known the boys on the bikes were watching him, but he continued.

I think it surely must be 1) Robbery with resistance or 2) Disagreement which led to a fight.

If not, then a total psychopath who intended to kill whichever taxi driver picked him up.

'An ex-con has claimed a 'human predator' is behind the notorious cheese wire murder of a Scots taxi driver more than 40 years ago in a 'planned and deliberate act of pure evil'.The former prisoner, who has served various stints behind bars in Scots jails, has contacted the bereaved family of Aberdeen cabbie George Murdoch- who was slain outside his vehicle in September, 1983'.

  • ''A former prisoner believes a 'human predator' carried out a 'planned and deliberate act of pure evil' in the murder of an Aberdeen taxi driver over four decades ago.''
''The source said: "This man is a killer and had the intention of killing. This was not a local crook, not a robbery gone wrong, this was not someone out for money.''
"A cheese wire? This was a sadistic, sick killer who had plotted a murder or violent crime and made sure there were no witnesses because of his comeuppance if he got it wrong.''
''This was a planned and deliberate act of pure evil and he was confident enough to go through with it. This man is on the police computer somewhere and not for anything minor either."
''Alex and Robina believe that, given Aberdeen's bustling oil industry at the time, the killer could be from almost anywhere in Scotland or even abroad''.

''Presented by journalist Kirsty Wark and narrated by Unforgotten’s Nicola Walker, this film delves into the details of the crime, exploring the significant advancements in forensics that have led to a major DNA breakthrough that could now solve the case.''

''But now the net is closing, and the public have a vital role to play. The killer’s DNA hasn’t matched to a profile on the national database, but detectives have the next best thing – a list of possible blood relatives that could lead them to the door of a murderer.''
''Forensics: Murder Case begins Monday 21st July on 5.''

  • Detectives search northern England in bid to solve Aberdeen cheese wire murder
  • ''Adam Gregory, a behavioural expert at the National Crime Agency, added: "There’s something really criminally ingrained in this individual.
"Those individuals are more likely to have criminal family members, and therefore more likely to have relatives that are on the national criminal database."
He added that, while the killer could have been from outside of Aberdeen, the fact that he took George to a secluded part of the city before killing him indicates he is from the area.''
''George’s nephew, Alex McKay, and his wife, Robina, have offered a £10,000 reward to anyone who provides a DNA sample that helps lead to the identification of the killer, and a £50,000 reward for information that helps confirm the killer’s identity.
Anyone who believes they can assist the investigation has been asked to contact 101 or email a dedicated inbox at [email protected].''

''The force has been working with the National Crime Agency to create a list of 1,000 people who have a possible genetic match to the profile.''

''While they are not considered suspects, they all have a strong genetic link to the DNA profile of Male Z.
And this has prompted cops to approach them and ask them for DNA samples, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Over the last 18 months, officers have been visiting people in Liverpool, Wirral, Manchester and Yorkshire who have a similar DNA to the suspect and asked them to provide a sample.''

“Out of the 5 million, we've got over 1,000 names most similar to the Male Z DNA profile.
"It’s physically impossible to meet or identify every single person. But we will do as much as we can''
