Grace Thorpe, 2, was rushed to Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle, in a critical condition after police were called to a report of an injured child at a house in Dale Street, New Marske on Tuesday morning.

Officers have confirmed that Grace passed away on Thursday 12th Nov 2020.

A 26 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Adam Jackson, 26, appeared at Teesside Magistrates' Court today charged with the murder of Grace Thorpe and spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

Jackson, of Parkside, Ladgate Lane, Middlesbrough, has been remanded in custody to appear at Teesside Crown Court on 16th November 2020.

On Thursday night, dozens of candles were lit to celebrate the youngster's short life.

Jackson, of Dale Street, New Marske, is due to go on trial on July 26 next year.

He was remanded in custody until his next hearing.

Adam Jackson made his first appearance before at judge at Teesside Crown Court on 16th Nov 2020.

The 26-year-old is charged with murdering two-year-old Grace Thorpe. Jackson, who was dressed in a grey t-shirt, spoke to confirm his name and his date of birth.

No pleas were entered during the short hearing and Jackson was remanded in custody until his next hearing.

A pre-trial hearing will take place on 22nd Mar 2021 and the trial is due to start on 26th July 2021.
