GUILTY UK - Hashim Ijazuddin, 21, and Saqib Hussain, 20, car crash A46 Leicester 11 Feb 2022 *Murder Arrests*

  • #401
First post... following this case as its local and wondered why it happened at the time.... Not sure if I can post the exact location on here? However after working out the location from the testomony here and looking at the area on Google Maps, having driven along that road 1000's of time I'm surprised there's not been more asked/mentioned about how a car can jump over a duel carrageway armco barrier on its own? (especially as those types of barriers are designed to stop that happening)

Is there anywhere we can see the charges against them (I can see four Txxx case numbers but not what is being charged?)
The victims car was doing 80-90 miles and hour when it lost control and ended up in the air. At that speed it went over the barrier.

I read somewhere that its a Murder or Manslaughter trail but im not sure what else the judge could direct.

The wheel brace

Ammeer Jamal denies seeing the Audi's wheel brace - which Mohammed Patel said was given to him for protection - at any point. He also denied seeing anyone open the boot to the Audi.

Ammeer had 'no idea where they were going'

Ammeer Jamal said the Seat, with him in the back, drove off with Raees behind the wheel but Raees didn't say where they were going and nobody asked Raees. Ammeer said he did not know where they went.
They then returned to Tomlin Road and then went to Tesco in Hamilton.

No explanation of why they were in Tesco

Ammeer Jamal said he knew Tesco in Hamilton well. He studied at Gateway College, next door, for two years. He said he went to the supermarket every day while at Gateway.
The CCTV shows the Audi and Seat parked next to each other before they separated. Ammeer said: "The only thing I remember was my cousin Raees shouting to the other car that he's going to give them some space and drove off to another area."
He said he did not remember anyone saying anything else and he still had no idea about Mahek and her mother being present. He also didn't remember seeing Rekan Karwan and Mohammed Patel getting out of the Audi.
Mr Kennon asked what he thought they were doing at Tesco. He replied: "I'm not too sure if I'm honest with you. I wasn't paying too much attention."

No idea of "ambush"

"Was there anything about what was happening that struck you as particularly unusual?" He said no. He was asked if he thought someone else was coming and he said no.
Again, he had not - at this stage - even heard the name "Saqbib". Mr Kennon asked Ammeer if he agreed to go to Tesco to be "part of an ambush" or a "violent attack" and he said no.
Mr Kennon asked: "Did you ever plan to kill two total strangers who you didn't know on behalf of total strangers who you didn't know?" He said no.

No idea of Skoda driving into car park

The CCTV showed the Skoda driving into Tesco's car park, pausing and then driving off, later pursued by the Seat he was in the back of. Ammeer Jamal said he had not seen the Skoda and that he couldn't recall anyone mentioning the Skoda. He said: "No one mentioned it."
When the Seat left, following the Skoda, Ammeer "didn't know where we was going", he said. Mr Kennon asked: "Were you conscious at that stage you were following the Skoda?"
He replied: "I was conscious we were following the Skoda but I didn't know why."

The 14-minute phone call

As the Seat left the Tesco there was a phone call between the two cars. Ammeer Jamal said the phone was on loudspeaker and Raees was speaking to Mohammed Patel on the other end.
He said he heard "not much" of the conversation and that there was not "continuous conversation" throughout the 14 minutes. He said that in the Seat it was just his cousin Raees who was talking to Mohammed Patel. He said he did hear a female's voice "but I didn't know who".
It is an agreed fact that at the same time as the 14-minute call between the cars, Mahek was talking to Saqib on another call.

agree he comes cross arrogant, as mahek did too, they seem to have an attitude.

My take so far is;

Looking at Maheks TTs (maybvlogs which I believe the jury have been shown?) and what’s said in her testimony, MOO is she comes across as a young “wannabe gangster”; I’m assuming some of the others she is with in her TTs are also part of this trial(?); if so, they also come across in the same vein.

My gut instinct based on the testimony so far is Raees and Rekan are part of the same ‘crowd’ and were there that night, acting the part of “wannabe gangster” too, flexing their muscle and impressing the girl so to speak.

As the ‘adult’, the mum should have stopped it escalating the way it did, however I don’t believe any of them intended to kill Saqib that night. If they had met in the car park I suspect there would have been a fight, leading to someone in hospital but not killed.

The others, so far, appear to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Apart from Mo, they all come across as lying beyond belief about the chase & conversations before, during and after the crash.

The victims car was doing 80-90 miles and hour when it lost control and ended up in the air. At that speed it went over the barrier.

"You may also recognise Armco barriers from high-speed roads too, such as motorways and dual carriageways. While the barriers may be completely destroyed during an accident, their main purpose is to stop vehicles from flipping or crashing onto the other side of the road. This prevents one accident from becoming many and helps increase the safety of our roads." How do Armco crash barriers work? | RTC Fencing

That's why I think it's strange, *something* must have happened which is outside of the design to make a car flip in the air and over a barrier designed to stop exactly that.

'Slow down, chill out'

Ammeer Jamal said he never asked his cousin what they were doing as they sped up the A46. He said he had no idea there was going to be a "high speed chase".
Mr Kennon asked what he could see. Ammeer said: "My view was quite restricted because I was in the back."
He said it was also "quite noisy" inside the Seat as the car sped up during the pursuit. Mr Kennon asked if Ammeer said anything after Raees started speeding.
Ammeer said that near to the Shell garage on the A46 he did speak out. He claimed he shouted: "Slow down, chill out." He said he said he had to shout to be heard.

Ammeer's worry about cousin's driving

Ammeer Jamal said he was worried about the Skoda ahead. He said: "I've just seen the Skoda go towards the Audi TT and I didn't want to be in the situation the TT was in."
Ammeer was asked if anyone else was shouting at Raees. He replied that Sanaf Gulammustafa was shouting things "along the same lines" and Raees "did slow down eventually just before the Skoda went off".

Incident with Audi TT and Skoda

Ammeer was asked more about the incident with the Audi TT and Skoda. He said: "I've seen the TT and the Skoda in front of me just as we've gone past the Hobby Horse Roundabout.
"Then I've seen the Skoda come towards the TT but the TT has sort of gone off the road but managed to come back onto the road."
He said the Audi TT then decelerated and went to the back of the three cars.

Only one "slightest tap" between the Seat and the Skoda

Ammeer was asked if the Seat collided with the Skoda. He said: "There was one contact. I remember feeling the tiniest bit of contact. It wouldn't be different to a bump in the road or something like that.
He said there was just one "slightest tap".

How the Skoda left the road

Ammeer saw the Skoda go into the central reservation but that was "later" and not straight after the contact between the cars. He said it was "at least 15, 20 seconds" after the Skoda and the Seat made contact that the Skoda went off the road.
He was asked: "Did you ever hear any talk about 'ramming' while you were in that Seat?" He said no.

The flaming Skoda

As they drove back towards Leicester Ammeer saw the Skoda. He said: "It was in flames. I was hoping they got out of it but from what I'd seen it would have been a miracle to have got out of it alive."
He said no one in the Seat suggested stopping to check on the occupants. He said: "People were shouting and screaming and swearing. I was panicking and scared and couldn't believe what I'd just seen with my eyes."
I was shouting: "What the actual **** has happened?"

'Panicking and scared'

He said everyone in the Seat was "panicking and scared". He was asked why he didn't call 999. He said: "I was scared. I didn't want to be there." He said he wasn't proud of not calling 999.

Covid mask and hood

He said his cousin had the idea to park in Sutton Place, back in Leicester. Ammeer said he got out of the Seat at Sutton Place at about 2am and put his hood up. He had also found the Covid mask in his pocket and had the mask over his mouth and nose when he got out of the car.
He was asked why. He said: "I was just in panic of what I'd seen. I was in shock. I put my hood up and covered my face."
He was asked who he was trying to hide from. He said: "Just anyone and everyone." He again denied having worn the Covid mask at any previous point that evening.

Ammeer saw Mohammed Patel with wheel brace

Ammeer said he saw Mohammed Patel put the wheel brace into the Audi's boot and that was the first time he'd seen the tool. He said: "I've seen the boot of the TT up - just after I've got out. I didn't see it being opened, it was just open." He said Mohammed Patel was near the boot.
He said: "I was still quite far away but I could still see it was him. I saw him put what looked like a wheel brace back into the boot.
"I thought, 'Why's he got that?'" But he said he did not say anything to anyone else.

Why Ammeer didn't go home

Ammeer said it would have been a five-minute walk to go straight home to his parents' house but that he did not go home straight away, with the group of seven - everyone except Mohammed Patel, who did go home - walking off towards Gipsy Lane together.
When asked why they walked off together he said: "I was just in shock. Everyone looked like they were in shock so everyone started walking in the same direction."

Splitting off from the group

Ammeer Jamal said that after a while he and Rekan Karwan split off from the group. Rekan Karwan has already told the jury he wanted to go back to the Audi because he had lost his house keys. Ammeer Jamal said he thought it was an "opportunity to get out of there, to go home".
He said: "Me and Rekan walked back to where we'd come from and then I went home."

Yeah I think there was some bravado from the guys and mix that in with a bit of weed being smoked, they were probably hyped as well.

Ansreen going and then not saying much throughout the chase shows to me that she knew what was going down that night. Not murder as you say but deffo for a bit of ruff an tumble and to get the images off the phone. She should have known better and I have no sympathy for her.

The car flipping is a contentious point at the trail because Raees is being accused of hitting and turning the Skoda that caused it to crash. I think the car ended up in half and that may answer a few questions about the barrier.

Ammeer Jamal got rid of phone based on 'legal advice'

Later, in the daytime on Friday, Raees Jamal asked Ammeer to go with him to get rid of his phone.
Ammeer told the jury: "He said he was near my house and he explained he'd been legally advised - the guy had told him to get rid of your phones."
He said he was reluctant to switch phones: "I wasn't part of anything I'd seen on the news. I didn't want to change my phone but I still did it."
He said he, Raees, Mohammed Patel and Rekan Karwan then went to a Leicester phone shop and switched their phones.

Ammeer tried to get old phone back

On February 22 he phoned the mobile phone shop trying to get his old phone back again. He said: "I knew I'd done nothing wrong and I was paying for two phones.
"I wanted my old phone back but he said he'd sold it already."

Ammeer Jamal went to police station after chat with family

Two days after the crash, on Sunday, February 13, Ammeer tried to speak to the police. He went to Keyham Lane Police Station with his girlfriend but it was closed.
Explaining why he went, he said: "I had a conversation with my family and my girlfriend. My father said the police had come to my house so I went to the police station."
He went back the following day - February 14 - and was interviewed by officers with a solicitor representing him, provided for him at the police station.
He was not arrested at that point and the officers told him they were looking for Rekan Karwan and Raees Jamal. He realised it was to do with the A46 crash, Ammeer told the jury.
He was asked by the police if he knew where they were and he said no. He told the jury that was an honest answer.

Ammeer admits lying to police in voluntary interview

During the interview at Keyham Lane Police Station, Ammeer Jamal was asked about Rekan Karwan and Raees Jamal's movements in the last few days and he said he didn't know anything. He admitted to the jury that he had lied.
He told the jury: "I just panicked. I was in shock. I just wanted to get back home to my daughter."
The police asked him when he last saw Raees and he said he couldn't remember. He told the jury: "That was a lie as well."

Ammeer's arrest

Mr Kennon asked Ammeer: "Six of those you had been with had been arrested by March 7. At that point - nine days before you were arrested - what did you think was going to happen to you?"
He said he did expect to get arrested and had a talk with his manager at work about it. He was arrested on March 16.

Any thoughts on why the change of drivers is being laboured? Is it because they want him to admit he knew it had been catastrophic maybe?

My takeaway is that he had finished the job he was supposed to do, and he was aware of the multiple crimes being committed

I think the car ended up in half and that may answer a few questions about the barrier.
Didn't the police say the car had hit the tree and split in half on the other side of the carrigeway, earlier in the testimony? Based on the photo which shows the burnt out car next to a tree, it looked like hitting the tree had caused the car to break in half (engine coming away)?

2_A46scene.jpg

edit: looking at the above photo again, it looked like the Skoda has somehow jumped over the armco barrier in the central reservation (right of photo), thrown tree debris across the road and ended up on top of the armco barrier against a tree on the southbound carrigeway. Its the jumping over the middle barrier (on the right) I can't understand - or is this the middle barrier it's on?

Very unlucky for them that Saqib called 999 and reported they were wearing balaclavas and trying to kill him. They didn't anticipate that.

Well played, Saqib.
