Day 11:

11.10am

Ashurst was asked about what he told medics had happened to Hollie. He said he told them about the fall on the two steps as that was why he was rushing her to hospital. He said they were asking for small conversations.

He said if he wasn't having a panic attack, he wouldn't have dropped Hollie on the stairs.

Day 11:

11.15am Ashurst's uncle

Mr Justice Dove is now going through the evidence given by Ashurst's uncle Christopher Lynch. He said Ashurst loved Hollie and it "shone out". He saw them regularly.

He said he gave money to Ashurst whenever he needed it and paid the rental for his car.

He last saw Hollie on February 28, when he drove past Ashurst carrying her up his mother's drive.

Day 11:

12.55pm Judge and jury return

Everyone has been called back to the courtroom. Ashurst is back in the dock. He's no longer wearing a tie and has a black jacket on over his shirt.

There is no verdict yet. The jury has a question. They want to ask about the word "intention". Mr Justice Dove says it's an ordinary English word used in everyday life.

The jury is now sent out to continue deliberating.

Didn't see the manslaughter coming; I expected murder, or for it to have taken a lot longer to get a verdict, not a very quick manslaughter. Perhaps it was the reporting but I didn't notice the jury being told that murder doesn't have to be intent to kill, just intent to harm resulting in death... it was the second definition which I expected to apply in this case. At least he didn't get away with it entirely, I guess, but that's going to be a way shorter sentence than he deserves.

Have to say I could relate to a lot of what he said about anxiety and getting in a muddle; if I ever found myself a witness/suspect in a case I'd get ripped to sheds on here as I sure can't keep a story straight (even a true one!) when stressed out... but none of that explains those injuries. Especially how there were multiple, some older than the day of her death. That really told the story IMO.
