''Isabella Skelton, originally from Glasgow, was last seen in the Crumpsall area of Manchester on June 5, 1969. The mother-of-three, 35, had moved south with her family in the 1960s before disappearing days before the 15th birthday of her daughter, Lynda Chapman. Mrs Chapman, 69, appeared on BBC One's Crimewatch Live to urge people to come forward, the Daily Record reported.''
''Greater Manchester Police confirmed in December the case had been classed as a murder inquiry. One man has been interviewed under caution on suspicion of her murder but no one has been charged. ''

''A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "This has been a complex and protracted investigation, and at this stage, all conventional lines of enquiry in our search for Isabella, have been exhausted. As with all complex investigations like this, we will continue to keep an open mind, and should new evidence come to light, we will follow all lines of enquiry to provide Isabella's family with the answers they deserve. Needless to say, such cases are never closed, and we would be grateful for any new lines of enquiry or information."

Glasgow-born Ms Skelton, nee McDowall, mother of three children, moved to Manchester in the early 1960s, first living in Salford and then in Crumpsall.

She worked at Atlas Express in Blackfriars, Salford and is also believed to have worked at Gallagher Cigarettes and Ball Bearings Services, the latter at the time of her disappearance, police said.

"We really need to hear from anyone who knew Isabella when she was living in Crumpsall or has seen her since," he said.

"Perhaps she's moved on to Glasgow and assumed another identity but I think that's unlikely.

The judge told Skelton: “These three then children have had to live with the effects and memory of what you did to them throughout their adult lives. What you did to them when they were children was nothing short of barbaric, by any standards of measures. Skelton pleaded guilty to three counts of child cruelty.

Oh my. If he was barbaric in his child abuse and treatment of his own children, and has now been jailed for it, it does seem that he was, in all likelihood, as barbaric and abusive to his wife.

I hope she did leave and run away for a new life, but no Mum would leave her 3 children behind to continue living with that monster! She'd have taken the children back to Scotland or run away somewhere with them, I'm sure.

So, that only leaves one plausible explanation as to what happened to her, and yes, the police are correct it was murder.
