Searches are ongoing in Aviemore in an effort to trace James Brannan nearly a week after he was last seen in the village.

The 72-year-old was last seen late on the afternoon of Saturday, 5 February near Spey Valley Golf Club. He was reported missing on Tuesday, 8 February and extensive police enquiries and searches have been ongoing since then.

Searches have been carried by specialist police officers along with partners from HM Coastguard, the Cairngorm and RAF mountain rescue teams and personnel from Glenmore Lodge, the Scottish National Outdoor Training Centre.

Chief Inspector Jen Valentine said: “We remain extremely concerned for James’s welfare and we are keeping his family fully informed as we progress with enquiries.

“We are grateful to our partners for their assistance with searches and the local community in Aviemore for their assistance.

“I know local people share our concern for James and I would continue to urge anyone who thinks they may have seen him at any time since last Saturday afternoon to get in touch as soon as possible.

“Any information, no matter how small you feel it might be, may be of use.

“Given the recent weather I would also urge anyone who lives locally and has a shed or outbuilding where someone could seek shelter to check this and report anything out of the ordinary to us.

“Anyone who has information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact 101, quoting reference number 1601 of 8 February.”

James is believed to have been wearing blue jeans, a dark winter jacket and walking boots.

He is described as being around 5ft 10in tall and of thin build with medium-length grey hair and a grey beard.

I was hoping this man had been found. The weather in Scotland is very bad today, weather warnings. If by chance he has went to Glasgow, hopefully he will have found shelter.

One month after Aviemore resident James Brannan disappeared, his sister is telling us how it has impacted their family.

Marie McKenna told MFR News: “It’s been horrific, his son and daughter are really struggling ... It’s beyond words what we’re going through.

“I try and be a strong person, but sometimes you just get caught off guard.

“I’m just going from pillar to post trying to be strong for the family and for my nephew and his daughter who are really bad."

Ms McKenna told us her brother is a well-liked member of the local community.

She said: “He went to one of the local bars to have a drink with his friends and has never been seen since.

“He’s a big character in Aviemore, he’s well-known by all the local people and a happy go-lucky guy that gets on with everybody.

“One of our bigger sisters is his best friend.

“She is horrifically struggling, I have to go up and see her every second day just to make sure she’s ok."
