UK - James Bulger, 2, abducted & murdered, Merseyside, 12 Feb 1993

  • #21
One of the men(he was 10 at the time) convicted of murdering James Bulger is too marry .......his bride has not been told of his past for fear of her telling someone else.
I feel sorry for this girl and I think she has the right to know.

Ok... I think these people think women are vengeful bi**hes... this article says:
<snip>
"If they <Venables and fiance> split acrimoniously or she confides in a friend or relative who doesn't share her love for him, the whole thing could come tumbling down."

Then the article concludes:
<snip>
Thompson reportedly lives with a gay partner who is understood to be aware of his past.

So... it's ok for a gay partner to know, but not a fiance/wife?!?! Something reeks here...

I'm not sure I understand your post. One of the men has chosen to tell his partner of his past, but the other one has chosen not too.

It's interesting that the identities of these two are extremely well-guarded and yet stories about their personal lives get leaked out.

If you read the article, it says "Case workers" have decided the future wife should not be told - not Venables... yet the article states that the Thompson's partner knows of his past. Why is it OK for a gay partner to know, but not a future wife? To me, they should be treated one and the same.

I hope someone close to her hears about this and tells her. What a horrible secret for someone to keep from the person they are supposed to love. That's one case that has stayed with me for a long time. It was horrible and worse yet to think that two children could have done it.

Just because case workers recommend he not tell his future wife doesn't mean he can't decide to come clean on his own.

Perhaps it isn't okay for the gay partner to know either - but he chose to take the risk and tell him.

I don't think it's entirely out of line to assume women can be vengeful bi**ches. Time and time again, they can be. So can gay lovers. It's pretty common in some situations... like divorce... that one or the other person can be pretty nasty.

Gotcha. I agree with your last statement and I don't know how case workers could stop these guys from telling their partners if they wanted to.

Me too, lizzybeth. Few cases have ever walloped me as completely as this one did. I remember the first time I read all the details, my youngest son was the age of James Bulger when he was killed. I went and laid down next to my sleeping child in bed for about 2 hours after reading the case. I was crushed.

My sadness came from being able to fully realize the innocence of a toddler that age and also from the young age of the boys who took and harmed him. The whole things was just sad on so many levels.

IMO if 'Venables' is serious about being a better, different person today, he either tells her or breaks up with her. If he thinks it is alright to keep this secret from his fiancee/wife/partner, adviced by case workers or not, he's not living in reality. Which makes me distrust him and makes me feel he's (still) dangerous. I have a whole better feeling about 'Thompson' as far as that goes.

so who is responsible if he kills a child he has with this woman? she is going into this blind.

  • #31
Exactly. And how is she going to feel when she finds out when they already have a little one? If all of this stuff can leak, then it can leak right back to her. Those 'case workers' should be locked up or something, giving advice like that.

So are the two going by different names now? (I read the article, but my brain is just not functioning as it should :() If not, how does she not see this information, or am i the only one who googled and background checked my husband?

From the article "Fourteen years on, Venables has a new identity"
Leads me to believe he has a new name. I highly doubt they would have all this secrecy and yet have them use their real names.

This case still haunts me. So much emotion about this one, but will never ever be able to express it.
I can't hear Tears In Heaven without crying for James, they played it at his funeral and I think of him always.

Well, I have heard everything now! Wow! Protect the killer's identity so people can't retaliate against him, but allow new possible victims (his bride and someday his children) to be kept in the dark because they don't want to upset the apple cart?! OMG!

Have these people been eating beef and now have Mad Cow or something?!

Somebody has got to put 2 and 2 together and realize the resemblance between this groom and and the child killer. There are pics of this guy all over the internet as a child.

What a devastating secret. He may have a new identity but he does not have a new life. He should have told her his dark secret.

God forbid they have any children.

I cannot help but wonder, did his parents change their last name as well? You cannot totally hide your identity if your family still has the name. Venables is not a super common last name is it?

Nobody please jump on me for insinuating that "relationships" in prison make one gay...not saying that at all....but perhaps Thompson is living with someone that he knew on the inside the would have known of his past?

Guessing here...:twocents:

I read an article on these two around about the time they were released from detention....the story stated that the pair had some sort of speech therpist helping them to lose their accent......its was also said that the two were sent directly to another country upon their release..Australia was named as the country but who knows where these two could be.

That's not a bad thought at all, lynie. Also, maybe the man in the homosexual relationshop felt more comfortable telling his partner because his partner was less likely to want kids, so that wouldn't be as much of an issue as it might in a heterosexual relationship.

I dont think they should be around any kids whether they be their own or someone elses......with their new lives they are able to mingle with who ever they choose and this to me is unfair to parents who might end up in their circle of friends.

I don't recall if the terms of their probation included not being around children. I somehow doubt it.
