Police in the Scottish Borders are appealing for information to help trace missing 86-year-old James (Jim) Cockburn.

James lives in Town Yetholm area and was last seen around 9.30am on Thursday, 29 June, 2023.

He is described as 6ft, muscular build with broad shoulders, grey thinning hair and is clean shaven.

It is believed he has travelled using his red Ford Fiesta, registration ET18 XFO.

Inspector Rachel Campbell, from Melrose Police Station, said: “As time continues to pass since James was last seen, concerns for his welfare continue to grow.

“We are asking anyone who may have seen him or his car, or who has any information on his whereabouts, to please call police on 101, quoting incident number 3837 of 29 June, 2023.”

Around 12.30am on Sunday, 2 July, the body of a man was found in a wooded area near Newton St Boswells.

Formal identification has yet to take place, but the family of James Cockburn, 86, reported missing from Town Yetholm, have been informed.

There are no apparent suspicious circumstances, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.
