Police are today marking 12-months since James Miller went missing in Warrington.

The 38-year-old was last seen on Slater Street in Latchford at 11pm on Tuesday 22 December 2020.

Despite an investigation into his disappearance and an extensive appeal made by his family and friends, James has never been seen since.

At the time he went missing James was wearing a white t-shirt and grey jogging bottoms. He is described as 5'8" tall with bright blue eyes, of a medium build and with a distinctive scar on the side of his head.

Officers investigating his disappearance have continued to provide support to James’s family and have looked into numerous sightings reported to police, which have proved inconclusive.

Detective Inspector Helen Clegg, of Warrington Local Policing Unit, said: “Today marks one-year since James was last seen and reported missing.

“The past 12-months have been a long and difficult time for his family and friends and my thoughts are with them today and continue to be as each day passes.

“Despite the number of enquiries we have received since James went missing his whereabouts has still not been established.

“However the investigation is still open and officers continue to act on reports which could lead to James being found.

“As we reflect on this day I would ask the public to cast their minds back and to get in touch if they have information that has not yet been disclosed to us. We are still appealing for new information that is relevant to James’s disappearance so please do get in touch – no matter how small you think it may be.

“I also want to repeat my thanks to the members of the public who have continued to do all they can to raise awareness of James’s disappearance and provide support and hope to his family.”

If you have any information please contact Cheshire Constabulary on 101 quoting IML 880492.

A man has been missing for exactly a year today, after going missing just days before Christmas.

Police have renewed their appeal for information on the whereabouts of James Miller, from Warrington.

[...]

Six months ago, James' sister Emma Miller said the period since his disappearance has been 'such a difficult time'.

She said: "We miss him and we hope that he is safe. It's such a difficult time.

"It is so important that we keep his face out there. Like we have said to everyone, it just takes one person to recognise him that could hopefully lead us on the correct path."

Emma also thanked the public across the country for their continued support to find James.

"We've had so much support and we cannot thank the public enough, not just in Warrington, but now up and down the country," she added.

The sister of a Warrington man who disappeared a year ago has said she is ‘devastated’ after 'missing' posters have been ripped down.

Exactly a year later, friends and family held a candlelight vigil in Victoria Park last night to mark the first anniversary of his disappearance.

The avid Warrington Wolves fan’s sister, Emma Miller-Briggs, told CheshireLive that the past 12 months have been “absolutely awful”.

Emma said she does not know where her brother could be: “I haven’t a clue. Many things crossed your mind especially with it now being a year and not one confirmed sighting of him apart from the CCTV of him on 22nd December 2020.

“But we hold on to hope everyday and pray he’s safe and warm wherever he may be.”

Missing posters for James have been placed around Warrington town. However, they have often been ripped down, which Emma said is “absolutely devastating”.

“I just don’t understand why people feel the need to rip them down," she said. "They are doing no harm to anyone.

“We just want people to leave them alone, it’s so important and vital that they stay up as it just takes that one person to recognise James.”

A new article from today containing many quotes from his family:

James’ family are set to hold a candlelight vigil this year on Thursday, December 22, at a time to be confirmed in Victoria Park in Latchford.

James did not take his phone, identification, cigarettes or any cash. He left after an argument and was captured on a CCTV camera walking in the direction of Carol Street.

Anyone who may have information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101, quoting IML 880492.

It is two years today since James went missing, please keep his family in your thoughts

ANNIVERSARY APPEAL - JAMES MILLER

James Miller was 37yrs old when he went missing on 22 December 2020 from Warrington, Cheshire. He was last seen at 23:00hrs on Slater Street in Latchford. Moments later, he was captured on CCTV walking in the direction of Carol Street.

Described as 5ft 8in in height, of medium build with bright blue eyes, James has a distinctive scar on side of his head. The mechanic was wearing a white T-shirt and grey jogging bottoms with blue trainers at the time of his disappearance.

The avid Warrington Wolves rugby and Bolton Wanderers football fan did not take his phone, identification, cigarettes or any cash. His bank account has not been used and there has not been a single confirmed sighting.

Officers investigating his disappearance have continued to provide support to his family and have looked into numerous sightings of James reported to police, which have proved inconclusive.

Some reported sightings have placed James among the homeless community in Manchester, but these were never verified. Searches along the Mersey and in areas including Victoria Park, with the use of sonar equipment and drones, have proved fruitless.

If you have seen James or you have information about his whereabouts, please phone Cheshire Police on 101 quoting reference IML880492. If you would prefer to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

I haven't done any major research into this, so take this for what it's worth, I've spent maybe 5-10 mins reading on the web about it. Suicide, possible. But I'd personally be extremely interested to investigate the neighbours. Why? In the MEN article, his sister says he was blasting loud music. If you look at google maps, specifically, Slater Street, Latchford, Warrington, you can see the entire road is terraced housing.

I can tell you with an overwhelming degree of honesty, mixed with personal experience: someone playing loud music in a terraced house like that is enough to cause someone to lose their mind in sheer anger - and I mean, lose their mind.

The walls of those houses are wafer thin. We're talking about houses that are built in 1900 or earlier. I've personally lived in that exact kind of housing. You can hear your next-door neighbour talking or even coughing through the walls. That is no exaggeration. Loud music. Bass. Coming through the walls? For hours on end? For most people it would be incredibly annoying, but it could be considered a form of torture for someone who is sensitive to noise. Also, I highly doubt this was a one off. I would theorise that this had been going on for while and when the neighbour(s) saw him leave the house and the music go off as he left, he, or they followed him and there was a confrontation which ended in foul play.

As for what they'll have done with the body, I have no immediate thoughts. But I strongly suspect this to be a possibility and the neighbours need investigating.

Case featured on Channel 5's Vanished: The Search for Britain's Missing tonight.

Will be on the My5 site later (UK only).

CCTV shows him walking off from home. Had been suffering with mental health, compounded by Covid lockdown.
