A MURDER investigation has been launched after a man drove up to a police station with a dead body in his car.

WalesOnline understands the man arrived at Porthcawl Police Station at around lunchtime today.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police confirmed the force is investigating the sudden death of a 21-year-old woman from the Porthcawl area.

She said a 49-year-old man has been taken into custody and is assisting officers with their investigation.

The victim's family has been informed.

Forensic officers have erected a tent in the back yard of the police station near the sea front and a large number of officers have been seen coming and going all afternoon.

This is about a mile from me in a small town of 15,000 and comes two months after my Mom's friend was stabbed by her ex, and about four months after a plane crash. If I said I live in a nice area you wouldn't believe me...

... and I seriously hope no one I know is involved.

Phillip Packer, 51, from Porthcawl, was jailed for life in January 2010 for killing ex-girlfriend Jenna Thomas...

Packer admitted manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility, but the jury convicted him of murder and he was ordered to serve at least 18 years in jail, later reduced to 16 years on appeal.
