All very strange but it did pretty much debunk the story Lucan committed suicide. All the evidence pointed to him initially escaping (with the aid of his rich friends) to Africa and Mozambique.

The story of the man in Australia with the various aliases (why is it so easy to change your name by Deed Poll in Australia?) that in itself is very suspicious carried numerous coincidences. He shared the same date of birth as Lucan, said he went Eton, had a an aristocratic English accent, knew Princess Margaret & Belgravia and barely denied the fact he was escaping from something or that he knew Sandra Rivett and at one point that he was Lucan. Berriman is adament that this man shares the same nick on his nostril.

Of course he may well have been the drag act man in Canada but a simple DNA test would surely answer all. Chances of law enforcement in Australia getting involved is pretty much zero.

Deed Poll name changes were discontinued in Australian states around the mid-80s. The formal name change process in which your new name is linked back to your birth record in the relevant registry, or in which you need to produce your citizenship certificate (if born overseas), has been in place since that time.

I was just wondering how in the case of Marion Barter (the missing Australian schoolteacher) that the person of interest in that case is a Belgian who has changed his name by Deed Poll in Australia numerous times without reference to his original birth name (whatever that might have been)?

Deed Polls are a legal document and to change their name a person simply stated that they now wanted to be known as XXXX and were previously known as YYYY. There was no requirement until the 80s for that record to be linked back to the earlier identity document (birth certificate or citizenship certificate). DPs are still used in property and business dealings but no longer for name changes.

Hello! I’m new. Glad to meet you all.

I’ve watched this documentary several times now. I think there are too many coincidences for it not to be him. However, the way the documentary ended suggests the filmmakers are being very careful, or there’s an ongoing cover up. Something that really struck me was the old man saying that he’d never heard of Lord Lucan, despite both having attended Eton, being of a similar age, British and growing up ‘around London.’ Who, over 50 years of age, hasn’t heard of Lord Lucan?

I have been reading up on the case and stumbled across mention of a police officer having stayed in the house overnight in the run up to Sandra’s murder. I also read a theory that Lady Lucan was the perpetrator, she planted the car and had help to dispose of the body. But I don’t think this is what happened as the friends in Uckfield admitted having seen him in the early hours of the morning after the murder.

What do you all think? Hope I haven’t broken any rules here.
