I knew John Cheeseman, he used to hang around at the Cubs and the football teams in Whiston which I would go to, the kids used to tease him quite badly due to the way he looked, and the fact that he had learning difficulties. He did used to get rough with some of the kids but only in a rough and tumble sort of way, although I do recall he could lose his temper, which was understandable really.

I couldn’t really picture the leap to this crime from what I knew of him though.

The key thing for me is that the person that was described by the witness in no way fitted John’s description.
