Gosh That really is quite shocking! How could they deem him fit to make an informed decision I wonder? Interesting cases Tortoise.

Yeah, that one is just crazy to me. A blind, nearly totally deaf man with no sense of smell has a duty of care to anyone he ever allows to live in his home? Like was he supposed to just feel around, find her and shove food in her mouth? Sounds like he had a really bad lawyer....

Having read quite in depth about that case now I actually think the judge gave the jury adequate opportunity in his instructions to acquit, but they obviously didn't. The man was sentenced to three years in prison but the court of appeal reduced it to one year. The woman received a suspended sentence.

Great posts. I don't understand it all but I think that you're doing all this research.

Another thing is that Abigail was asked about responsibility for Jordan's death, and she said no, because they were told Jordan died of natural causes. So you kind of see her thought processes there, that in her mind you can't fight natural causes. I suppose the question is whether she truly feels that way, thinks that way, or if it's more a case of someone abdicating their duty/responsibility in the run-up to what happened.

I also think it's telling that the family did call for help right at the end (when Jordan could no longer object? when it was more clear to them that he was close to death?). I can understand, I guess, that it's for a jury to decide if that's the reasoning going on, or if their reasoning was something more along the lines of it was now too late to help Jordan and that there was a design in the choice to wait until it was too late.

The loperamide (anti-diahhroea) tablets were mentioned. He must have felt very uncomfortable taking 6 of those every week.

When my dad had cancer he had a few days of problem and was prescribed loperamide by the doctor, I think it was to take one a day. The doctor didn't tell my dad to stop taking them, so a few days later of course the problem went the other way. "Stop taking them" I said. "No", he said, "the doctor told me to take them". For my dad I didn't have the authority to tell him how to take a doctor-prescribed medication. I had to phone the doctor in front of my dad and get the doctor to say he no longer needed them, otherwise he would have carried on with one a day! What if I hadn't been around and had the knowledge of that particular drug to know that he no longer needed it?

And then when loperamide is on a shelf in a supermarket, would people like these think that makes it okay to take it every day. Yes, there should be a notice on the packet to not take it for more than a few days without talking to a doctor, but there are probably quite a lot of 'average intelligence' or 'high intelligence' people who sometimes ignore those warnings a little bit because it's easier to self-treat than to go to the doctor.

I can't find any updates or tweets from today.

What I can't work out was where Abigail was living when Jordan died. Was it at her Mums/Grans?

Maybe it's obvious and I just missed it.

I'm pretty sure I remember interviews talking about her visiting her family so she must not have been living there with them. I don't think I recall reading anything about where she lives though.

Hi Sooty

I struggle with this whole story, there is clearly something not right (for want of a better term) with this family,
I'm pretty sure I remember interviews talking about her visiting her family so she must not have been living there with them. I don't think I recall reading anything about where she lives though.

This is a quote from her interview:
I only nip up to see how everyone is. I don’t live there, but he was fit and all into his health stuff.

Lol I managed to merge two posts I was writing separately there

This confuses me slightly, I assume they mean she was staying with Denise, as Dawns house was unsuitable? (taken from Leeds Live updates)

Abigail said Jordan was moody and unwell
Sharon (Sharon Sheard, Outreach Worker at Farnley Children’s Centre) said she asked if Abigail had been staying at her mum’s because ‘Dawn’s house was deemed unsuitable’.

“Abigail said she’s not been going to her mum’s house because her brother was there and that he was moody, unwell and had a poorly leg.

“I said to Abigail that her brother would need to go to a GP but her mum was going to organise it.

“She said her brother was quite lazy and didn’t like going to the Doctors.

“Abigail said: ‘Jordan’s sore on his leg isn’t that bad. He’s ok.’

Dawn and Denise live together.

Same witness giving evidence all day today, but can't find any reports. Maybe we'll get one from the BBC tonight.

Thats what I'd thought, but I was getting so confused!
There is also an older brother of Dawn's living there, aged in his forties. I'm surprised they didn't charge him too. He has autism but I haven't heard anything about him having a live-in carer.

I'm glad it's not just me who got confused about the living arrangements.

I wonder why Dawn's house was deemed unsuitable?

It could be something as simple as not enough bedrooms/beds etc.

I'm leaning towards hygiene being the issue, but I don't have anything concrete to base that on. Just a hunch.

I'm thinking earliest reports referred to as a hoarder.

Taken from Leeds-live site...

"The Cranstons both lived with the teenager and his sister lived in nearby Cow Close Road in Farnley."

I wonder if the uncle is giving evidence? Maybe thats why it isn't being reported?? The reporting is very hit and miss on this case - very frustrating as it is such an important case I feel

Family on trial after dead teen and baby found in Leeds house

"Dawn Cranston was depressed after her father’s suicide and coped by buying lots of Converse shoes
  • Jordan was a hoarder too"
So was she a hoarder of just converse shoes? It's not real clear. I'm trying to find where else I must have read she was a hoarder.

The ambulance crew described the house as being very cluttered when they arrived - maybe thats where you have the idea from, Beatrix?

Prosecutor describes disturbing scene
Mr Lumley said:

What met the eyes of the paramedics was a shocking and disturbing scene.

Jordan was lying, utterly helpless, on an inflatable mattress in a cluttered living room.

He was little more than skin and bones.

He weighed 37kg, less than 6 stones.

He wore a soiled nappy under some pyjamas.

The reporting isnt as good as some I've seen on some cases recently (Helen Baileys for example), but I'm a bit jealous other parts of the country have up to the minute reporting like this - in Suffolk and Norfolk we don't seem to have those
