Joseph Edward McPartlin, 65, disappeared from his Moffat Road home in Hartlepool last Sunday - from the TeessideLive website. After that, there was absolutely nothing further, neither that he had been found, nor that he was one of the long-term missing persons in the region. Sometimes, when a person is found – alive or dead – there's no further news. In this case, I'm not sure if the man is even still missing. Is there any way to find out? It would be stupid if a person were declared missing here who is no longer missing.

I found the case on Mapthemissing. On this site, I help people search for cases where they have disappeared without a trace, along with their vehicles, or were later found. Most often, they were found in a body of water. The strange thing about Joseph Edward McPartlin is that, apart from the three reports published shortly after his disappearance in 2004, there are no other reports.

Well, he was added to DoeNetwork in 2022, then it appears a photo was added in the time since it was shared here. There are two slightly different articles with the online date of May 15 2013 but they're worded as if they're just after he went missing, so maybe just archived at that time:

I was able to get help finding this article from June 29, 2005 by the Northern Echo. It has the same photo as DN

The family of a grandfather who went missing a year ago have appealed for him to return home in time for his son's wedding next month. Joseph McPartlin, 66, of Owton Manor, Hartlepool, has not been seen since he left home on June 13 last year in his maroon Ford Escort.
For more than a year, his disabled wife, Joan, and four children have hunted everywhere to find the keen pigeon fancier and he has been placed on the National Missing Persons Register.
Last night, both the family and detectives re-issued their appeal to help find him.
Mr McPartlin's son, Allan, who lives only doors away from his parents, in Moffatt Road, Owton Manor, said: "My brother David is getting married on July 16 and we would love him to be at the wedding.
"If he wants to come, he should let us know. It would be a perfect present. We are playing a waiting game.
"We can only hope that dad will come back, but every time I hear that a body has been found somewhere, my stomach is in my mouth."
Mr McPartlin needed crutches to get about, as well as medication for severe pain.
But since his disappearance, police believe he has made no attempt to get medication and has not touched his bank account.
About two weeks after his disappearance, the family found a note pinned to a calendar, which stated the grandfather was upset about various things, but did not explain his intentions.
Last night, Detective Sergeant Mick Wilson said forensic tests have proved that the letter was written by Mr McPartlin.
He said "as time goes on, it's less likely that Mr McPartlin will return safe and well, but we hope."
Anyone who has seen him or his Ford Escord, registration N225 MWT, is asked to call police on (01642) 302126.
More info too.

His car, in which his body may be, has likely already been found without any official report. There are several bodies of water in the area where his car could be. I entered the license plate number but couldn't find any records for it; apparently, the car no longer exists. I assume he's dead, and if so, he's probably in a body of water. The local police will certainly know.

According to the British government website, his license plate shows that no taxes have been paid since April 2nd, 2005. It's sad that no media outlets are reporting on his disappearance.

That is the problem when adding decades-old missing persons found in old newspapers posts to different missing persons sites. Those cases can well have been already solved, the person being found alive or deceased, and that information might not have been published in newspapers that are available online today. The only way to find that info would be to contact the police in the area where the missing person lived when they went missing.

according to reports from Teeside live in 2013 - his car was maroon in colour rather than brown as initially reported

I got the missing person report from a website for people who have disappeared in cars. This Teeside report was only updated in 2013, but there's one from 2004, and another from 2005 that was included here. I'll probably write to the Teeside Gazette and ask if the case was ever solved.

As an affected person or their relative, it would be very unpleasant for me to continue to be considered missing when I am no longer missing.

I would guess there are people who has been reported missing, and who don't know about that, unless they do a search for their name + missing. As the man in this case was 65 years old, it's not certain that he, or his relatives have done a search, and there is no info in post #1 when the DoeNetwork page was done. Unfortunately "missing person" posts, be it in newspapers or reposted ones in todays social media doesn't "magically disappear" when a missing person has been located. There have been a lot of reposted "missing person" posts on social media lately, and I pity those kids (and adults) who went voluntarily missing for some hours, or days, and was later located safe. Imagine when someone is looking up their name, for example a potential employer, or a new friend, or their child 10-20 years from now, and they have to explain why there's a "missing person" post about them online. Maybe there is sensitive info in those posts, which might make a potential employer to decide not to hire someone.
