Kevin Dundon 1980 ferry disappearance: 'Bad things happened on boat'
Sept 28 2020
''The brothers of a man who disappeared from a North Sea ferry 40 years ago said they always suspected it to be a foul play or murder case.
Kevin Dundon, from Essex, was aged 22 when he went missing while on a vessel returning to Felixstowe from Zeebrugge in Belgium, on 21 September 1980.
Suffolk Police is reviewing the case and said there was "growing support" his disappearance was not accidental.
Tom Dundon said he was told at the time "bad things happened on the boat".

''Kevin was employed by shipping company Townsend Thoresen and had been working on the vessel for three days when he disappeared.
His duties included washing crockery in the galley.
Witness statements from colleagues said he was working in the plate room at about 18:00 BST that Sunday, and the last confirmed sighting of him was 30 minutes later when he was believed to have been seen exiting the galley through a door which could have taken him to either the toilets or the deck.''

''Tom said he received a phone call in the early hours of the Monday from a priest at Felixstowe who told him that immediately after the ship had docked, a crew member went to talk to him about what happened on the boat.
"The padre said to me that he couldn't tell me what he said but don't let it drop, bad things had happened on the boat," said Tom.''

''Suffolk Police continues to appeal for fresh information.''

Kevin Dundon: ‘Something bad happened to our brother on that ship’
''A FRESH appeal has been launched for a man who vanished 40 years ago while working out at sea as an investigating officer strives to prove it was "not accidental".

Kevin Dundon, from Clacton, who was just 22-years-old at the time of his disappearance, was last seen alive on a North Sea ferry, off the coast of Suffolk, on Sunday September 21 1980.

At the time, he was working for a shipping company called Townsend Thoresen on a large vessel called the Viking Viscount, which was returning to Felixstowe from Belgium

He had only started working on this particular ferry - which had 605 passengers on board - three days before he went missing and his duties included washing crockery in the ship’s galley

In the periods when he was not working, Mr Dundon was reported to have spent time in the staff mess room, which was frequented by various members of the crew throughout the day.''

"We remember that day vividly and implore anyone aboard the Viking Viscount that evening who may remember anything about the incident, to please contact the police.''

''Anyone with information about Kevin Dundon’s disappearance, is asked to call 01953 423819 or email [email protected]''

''Sadly, Mr Dundon was not located and his body - nor any definitive answers or evidence - has never been found, despite a missing person investigation being launched''.

''Kevin was described by his brother Tom as 'always happy and chilled and really relaxed'. He added: 'He loved music, buying new clothes and had a local girlfriend'''

Murder detectives probe disappearance of crew member, 22, who vanished on a ferry 40 years ago | Daily Mail Online
''Murder detectives are investigating the disappearance of a crew member on a North Sea ferry 40 years ago amid new fears that he was pushed overboard.

Kevin Dundon, 22, went missing after he was seen washing dishes in the galley of the Townsend Thoresen ferry Viking Viscount on September 21, 1980.

It was thought that Mr Dundon from Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, may have gone into the sea, but a search failed to find his body.

Detectives have now taken new statements from people on board who believe he was a victim of foul play when he vanished 26 miles off Felixstowe, Suffolk.''

''They are convinced that someone among the 86 crew and the 600 passengers on the ferry knows what happened to him.''

''Emergency services were informed that Mr Dundon was missing at 10.45pm - two hours after the ferry docked at Felixstowe.

The Viking Viscount left for Zeebrugge again at 11pm and joined three other ships, searching for him near the Galloper lightship until around 1.30am.''

'The sea at the time was like a pond. It was bright and calm, and you could see for miles and miles.'''
'Under these circumstances it is extremely unlikely Kevin could have gone overboard without being seen''

so they need to shake down those crew members
one or more of them know what happened

Hoping somewhere Kevin's height, weight, tattoos, jewellery and scars are noted to try and compare with UID persons.

“Seeing our family being torn apart with grief was virtually unbearable.

“We remember that day vividly because the rest of the family were visiting Norfolk, it was a clear dry day with very good visibility into the evening, we were told the conditions were the same aboard the ferry.
