Could little Kiara have woken and knocked the car into gear?

Not to point fingers at the mother, she probably wasn‘t thinking, but I wouldn‘t even park my car there without a baby in it.

The Daily Mail articles are talking about the "electronic button brake" on Kiara's mother's new Mini. Must admit I have never heard of these. I am sure this would be easier to forget to put on than a traditional handbrake, or perhaps it wasn't working properly. I hate parking on slopes and spend ages checking back through the car window to see if the handbrake is up/up enough. And then of course the cable can snap while you are away from the car.

The photo of the yard where the car was parked has traffic cones and a "keep clear no parking notice" on one of the buildings, so it does look as if parking was a problem which would might explain why the Mini was parked very near to or on the slipway unfortunately. Just looking at the location I am not sure if it's the type of place where people would have surveillance cameras. The parents would have known this and presumably would have checked the footage straight away if they thought it might have shown the car being stolen. Really is necessary for the regulations on slipway barriers to be tightened up.

TROLLS posting "malicious" comments over the death of a two-year-old girl inside a car that plunged into a river could face arrest.
...
Dyfed-Powys Police have now warned people to "think very carefully" before posting about the tragedy online and not to speculate.

The force tweeted: "We are aware of comments on threads across social media which are being looked at.

"Posts considered to be malicious will be recorded and police action may follow."
Police confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the tragedy on Monday afternoon.

Leaving a child on their own isn't illegal - but it is an offence to leave them by themselves if it's "likely to lead to injury or suffering."
Dyfed-Powys Police said: "“Enquiries are continuing to fully understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. Examination of the vehicle will form part of these enquiries.

"We can also confirm that the vehicle had not been stolen.
"Specialist officers are continuing to support the family."

Kiara Moore funeral to be held on third birthday

The family of a two-year-old girl, who died after a car went into a river, want the public to make her funeral a "bright and beautiful" occasion.

She would have been three years old on Tuesday 27 March - the day of her funeral and a celebration of her life.
...
Mr Moore wrote on Facebook: "Myself, Kim and family would like to invite you all to either the funeral and party for her happy life and birthday! (or just be have a thought for her on this day and make some one happy).

Maybe the slipway is the only place to park where there is not coverage by cameras?

Is a slipway the same thing as a boat launch?

I believe so.

The hearing was also told the handbrake was found in the "unset position" after the Mini was discovered in the river.

Forensic investigator Aled Thomas said it would have needed to be set to just two clicks to stop it from rolling down the hill.

He told the hearing: "The handbrake was found in the unset position and not applied."

Other tests showed the handbrake was not in force - but there was no proof how it was knocked off, it was said.

Investigating officer Sergeant Shane Davies suggested Kiara moving into the back seat could have triggered the car rolling back

What a dreadful tragedy - within minutes

This is just very odd to me. That is a very narrow area for the car to slip down through to the water. The wheel angle has to be perfect to not hit anything. But who leaves a 2 yo in a car like that by the water? And an apparently unsecured toddler in a car? Wow. I have 8 kids and would never in a million years have done this. An unsecured two year old in a car by the water with no breaks secured??

I find it more believable that someone would forget a child in the back seat than someone leaves a toddler unbuckled like this knowingly and leaves them for such a long time. Why would two parents need to abandon a toddler in a car to get cash? Never! And saying the card snapped is clearly a lie. I'm kind of shocked they won't be investigating this.
