Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a woman’s body was found in a house on Stanhall Mews, Stanningley on Friday 25 March.

Officers are now in a position to name the woman as 35 year old Kirstie Ellis.

A murder investigation was launched by the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team on Friday afternoon.

A man and a woman, both 35, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody at this time.

Detective Chief Inspector Marc Bowes Senior Investigating Officer at West Yorkshire Police said:

‘This is a tragic case and my thoughts are with Kirstie’s family at this time.

‘Our early investigations show that Kirstie’s body had been in the property a number of weeks.

‘A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish the cause of her death and specialist officers are offering support to her family.

‘We are appealing for information from anyone who may have seen Kirstie or saw anything suspicious around Stanhall Mews, from mid January 2022 onwards, no matter how small they feel it might be, to come forward and help us with our enquiry. Piecing together the movements of Kirstie will greatly assist our investigation.

‘We are particularly keen to hear from people who visited the Catalina garage on Bradford Road around this time and might have also seen or heard something that could help us.

‘A scene remains in place at the property and also at Cumberland Road and Beancroft Road in Castleford.

‘Our Neighbourhood officers are conducting additional patrols to provide reassurance to the local community.’

A woman who was found dead at her home may have been lying there for a number of weeks, neighbours fear, as two people remain in custody on suspicion of murder.

The woman, named locally as Kirstie Anne Ellis, 35, was found dead at her house in Leeds on Friday afternoon by police officers who responded to concerns for her safety. A man and a woman, both 35, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody to be quizzed by detectives from West Yorkshire Police's homicide team. Shocked neighbours on the quiet cul-de-sac in Stanningley, west Leeds, said they feared her body may have lay there undiscovered for a month.

One woman in the street, who didn't want to be named, said that officers had knocked on doors asking neighbours if they had seen Kirstie in recent weeks.

She said: 'Two weeks ago, police came here asking if we'd seen her in the last two weeks. She could have been dead in there for a good four weeks.'

The neighbour said police also showed residents a photograph of a man they were interested in speaking to, but she did not recognise him.

She added: 'The police said there was a lot of post piled up behind her door. I don't know why they didn't kick the door in then.

'Everyone sort of keeps themselves to themselves and we never really spoke to her.

'I never really saw her have friends round or have anyone over.

'I wasn't in on Friday, but when I came home I saw all the police. It was a shock, it's a proper quiet street. You just don't expect it.'A second neighbour, who was not named, told Leeds Live: 'Obviously, everyone is very shocked about what has happened to this poor woman.

'We don't know very much about what has taken place as yet and it's normally such a quiet little street. 'The police were at the same house a week or two ago regarding a missing persons enquiry and I don't know if what's happened is connected to that in any way.'

Police and forensic teams continue to work at the property and conduct patrols in the area. A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: 'Police have launched a murder investigation after the body of a woman was found at an address in Leeds.

'The woman's body was discovered inside a property in Stanhall Mews in Stanningley after police received a concern for safety report at 2.49pm on Friday.

'A man and a woman, both 35, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.

'A scene remains on at the address as enquiries into the woman's death continue. These are being led by the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.'

Detectives have appealed for anyone with any information to get in touch. Anyone with any information that is likely to assist the investigation is asked to contact the team on 101, or by using the LiveChat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website.

Kirstie Ellis death: Man charged with Leeds murder

Brooks, aged 36, of Agbrigg Road, Wakefield, was sentenced today and received a life term with a minimum of 24 years and 9 months.

Still a monster, but at least he pleaded guilty to murder eventually and the family was spared the ordeal of sitting through a trial. Shame that Megan Newborough’s killer hasn’t done the same
