This is fascinating.
Interesting: Haunting images show abandoned Hertfordshire mansion | Daily Mail Online

Inside abandoned house where the owners appear to have upped and left in a hurry | Metro News

Mystery of abandoned mansion left to rot with designer clothes in wardrobe, Bentley on drive & snooker game half-played

The stories seem to come from the same news agency, but the Fail has the most details.

The house appears to have been abandoned in a hurry, perhaps in 2016.

The story suggests they were Russians, but I see English language school textbooks there, so a teenager in a British school. Googling suggests Kozlowska may be a Polish name rather than Russian.

Wow! What in the world happened here? Why didn't they take their stuff with them if they left the country? Do they have any other family? How come no one reported them missing in four years?

Exactly, that's what make this the stuff of fiction.

very strange
and the home is quite cluttered, with things in odd places like dinnerware on a coffeetable and the fridge appears to be missing from the kitchen
also, even for 2016, the decor is very dated IMO

The dolls on the mantlepiece and on the staircase, were they positioned? Sure look like they were

Wow, this is incredibly bizarre and fascinating. I wonder what happened to them.

I think you could even say that the pool table seems staged like it was left in mid-match.

The whole house looks like a movie set, like everything is staged. Did they set it up to look like they were abducted/suddenly left or did something bad happen them mid daily routine?

Did anyone local know the family? Were they ever reported missing, did anyone look for them?

Fascinating story.

I wonder why everything is still so preserved, obviously except the damage from being left. Especially since the house is now owned by others.

Maybe they intend to use just the land at some stage and don't care about the house or contents? Shame to see such a beautiful building decay like that. JMO

There are a couple of fridge's in the room with the snooker table. Personally don't find the half played games of snooker and chess unusual in the slightest. Kitchen looks like it's been ransacked a little-few drawers pulled out and thrown into the sink? The article is very naive, talking about they must have fled in a hurry as they didn't even take their toothbrushes. How many people have a seperate toothbrush for travelling, I know I do. Can anybody see a book that's not English written?

There is a video on youtube where urban explorers look inside the home, I get the impression they found the property and bought it to attention.

Seems like the property belonged to a Greek property millionaire.

"Villagers near Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, claimed the mansion was previously occupied by real estate tycoon Athanasios Tachmintzis, 70, whose wife Sharon, from North Wales, died aged 52 in May 2004.

Mr Tachmintzis is said to have acquired the property in 1999 and lived there for about 18 years before he disappeared suddenly.

It was unclear who was residing at the home when it was abandoned while completely furnished and decorated, and filled with everything from pianos and a snooker table to designer clothing and a telescope.

For years, neighbours have been wondering why the occupants moved out and left so many belongings behind, giving the impression that they may have been in a hurry.

Mr Tachmintzis and his wife had three sons - Alexis, 43, Nicholas, 41, and Paul, 36 - and daughters Kiristiana, 34, and Alicia, 28, it is reported.

One local said they noticed that the occupants had "just disappeared" about three years ago.

The resident said: "I just thought at first that they had gone away somewhere and would then come back – but nobody did. It is most strange.

Nobody around here has a clue what happened to them and why they just upped and left. It is a real mystery. They obviously had loads of money because it is a big house. There were always lots of comings and goings with different people going in and out."

This is interesting.

"In June 2013, Kings Langley residents were asked to be on the lookout for Alexis Tachmintzis, then 26, after he was reported missing, the Watford Observer reported at the time.

Police said he was last seen leaving a relative's house in north-west London and was "particularly fond of the Kings Langley area as he has relatives there".

EDIT: Several articles state Alexis as 43 now, in 2013 he would of been 36, not 26. Perhaps a typo on the mirror's behalf.

The more you look at it the more it just looks like a police raid.

Although when you watch the video where the explorers look inside, there are several children toys. Not sure how that's explained

The toys look very outdated so maybe belonged to the adult children and had been there a long time? It's possible the Youtubers set things up a bit to make it look a bit more spooky. JMO

Social media makes an interesting read too, not sure if allowed to quote?

"Despite what the media has written about this property it is NOT derelict, abandoned, stuck in time or left to rot!
Upon our arrival today we were approached by the neighbours, police and the owners family of this property. Word of mouth spread quickly as well as a news paper article sharing information that didn’t make this location hard to find on google maps which has now ended up with Valuable Items been stolen, the house and property including a Rolls-Royce has been vandalised which has now been taken from the property to prevent any further damage. Inside the house some one has scribbled all over walls and items with graffiti. The family are distraught, upset and angry.
6 explorers were arrested last night and anyone else that attempts to trespass this property will also be prosecuted.
Unfortunately the owner is in hospital and is unable to maintain the building... they haven’t done a midnight flit or gone missing.
It just proves We shouldn’t read everything the media tells you. Especially with this pandemic going on!
We were given permission by the owner to capture some photos of the outside to write a post in the hope to spread the word and warn other genuine explorers like us that this property is not abandoned. Please share and help us prevent any further damage by trespassers and any more upset to the family."
