I don't know- a fit male teenager could probably still overpower an average female even if she had a black belt assuming the element of surprise. At some point a male of a certain size could be hit or kicked until she was exhausted. She wouldn't be able to do any meaningful damage.

This is really an odd case.

Yep. I agree. And a surprise attack in the street is very different to point scoring in an arena.

I'd agree with this.

Yes she was probably in a better position than most to defend herself but i don't think it should be taken for granted that she could not be overpowered.

Taser?

Would that even be a possibility to get hold of one if you weren’t a police officer? But then you start to think that would be someone who would want to be sure they could overpower a martial artist.

This is just a random thought really. I think a taser was used on Jaycee Lee Dugard (May have the name wrong-the child in USA years ago ie not linked to Leah)

I share these views entirely, it’s not enough to know certain moves IF your opponent is 10 x stronger. I think if Leah was abducted (this is my supposition) her abductor (judging by history of perpetrators), may very well have known or researched points to hit somone in a particular place (hard and fast) to stun them or worse.
Somethings got to give sooner or later. I think the break has to be somewhere in CCTV.

Having martial arts training is great but it gives a sense on invulnerability that has no basis in reality. It is much more important to your safety as a male or female to be aware of your surroundings, the behavior of others, and take other common-sense precautions.

Even in martial arts competitions (male vs male) they match competitors by weight. Even a few pounds of extra muscle makes a huge difference. If she was 5'2" then a 6'2" assailant might easily weight 100 lbs more than her and have double the muscle mass she has. She wouldn't stand the slightest chance.

If Leah was attacked by someone she knows, she may easily have been overpowered. An attack from behind, someone grabbing her backpack and swinging her off her feet (I'm wee, I spent a lot of my schooldays swung round by my schoolbag) being pushed down a flight of steps, hit over the head, even being hit by a vehicle are possibilities. It looks like something bad has happened Leah so someone must have gotten round her abilities.

Thank you :-)

I agree. The thing that tkd could have given her is a heightened awareness, quicker reactions.

From doing a quick search online the consensus is that knowing a martial art is not the same as self defense, but she may have trained in self defense too. like you say though a 6'2 man could probably overpower her regardless of her training.

If she was attacked then removed from the area by car or van why no vehicle descriptions from police? I assume that police have reviewed the CCTV and know all the vehicles leaving and entering the key areas between her home and her job that day.

If she was concealed locally I think it would be much more difficult.

Yes and if LE arent asking about vehicles, so you would presume all are accounted for.

Taken into a house nearby by someone who has watched her pass daily?

Somone mentioned in earlier threads, that there’s not a lot of CCTV in the relevant secluded areas. But let’s hope the police are doing what they do best in the background and looking inwards with any available CCTV from a logical circumference.

Le aren't really asking about anything, IMO they already have a fair idea of what's happened and have a POI.

Really? Odd there has been no indication who. Do you have a theory?

Are you thinking this maybe because things have gone so quite from LE Or something else?

No, I just didn't believe that statement about never having dealt with a case like this, someone vanishing without trace etc. Just reminds me of when LE announce someone is not a suspect etc and then arrest them. It's just my own thoughts.

I do not know what it is, but there is something to me that does not seem quite right about this case.

Knows someone on the route to work possibly from her martial arts club, and went to his house for a pre arranged meet and things went badly wrong

It's unlikely she knew anyone on her route from her martial arts club as it's based in a small village 15 miles away from her house. LE don't seem to have explicitly mentioned that she has links to Stewartby (the village) or anywhere else for that matter though which seems a bit strange.

I thought the same Brian, and also more slender in her physique, the photographs we have seen per date of Leah, she certainly looks broader.

My thoughts as well regarding the height and slender physique of the girl with the blonde hair.

If there were a POI, wouldn’t LE have found Leah by now though?

Yes that’s seemed like an unusual comment considering the amount of cases of missing persons who have previously vanished without a trace. I was watching only last night ( to name some examples) - An Irish documentary about missing women of the triangle. (Reference to missing women in the 1990’s) who mostly vanished without a trace. ( Thanks to the member who inspired me to look the story up on thread 1)

I think it was much easier to go missing in the 1990's before mobile phone tracking ,cctv and other technology of the 21st century.
