I'm sure this has been asked and answered before but my internet is too slow tonight to go looking. How do you know if a phone has been switched off or the battery just ran out?

To my knowledge, if a phone is switched off it will still ping the nearest mast. If the battery runs out or is removed, it will no longer do this.

I have a 19 year old step daughter. The chances of Leah not having her phone on her are slim to none. It was early morning so the chances are she charged it overnight so it probably had full battery. They are attached to their phones. It was probably in her pocket for easy access as I can’t imagine she would put it in her backpack she might miss a message for 20 mins.

I do find it strange that there wasn’t any activity this week in regards to appeals from the family or the police. It’s like it’s all gone too quiet.

Put yourself in the position of a potential abductor. You need to make sure the phone isn’t traced and quickly. If you throw it away it might be found. If you turn it off it might still be traceable somehow. Newer phones don’t have a removable battery.
I would want to make sure it is no longer fuctional.... destroying it somehow is the only real way to achieve that in my mind.

One thing that confuses me about this case is the continuation of conflicting information about where she was last seen, combined with the lack of further information about, for example, phone pings/location.

For example, the giant banners which now hang over the underpasses in MK state that Leah was last seen at 10pm on the 14th. They then go on to describe what she was wearing the next day when she was seen on CCTV footage.

I don’t know if that’s usual, but it feels unhelpful somehow, especially given that SURELY what they need is for someone who saw her on the morning of the 15th to come forwards with information?

Well, if you saw that banner, and you saw something strange on 15th, you wouldn’t call in.

I agree that the lack of updates on specific points is really odd.

I think people would still phone in due to the off-chance of getting the reward.

I wonder what the family have been told by LE and what they cannot tell anyone. Surely they must know more officially than us. (I have read Gemma Dowler’s book about Millie and from what I remember there were things they found out only via the press that the police already knew. As an aside, the book is brilliantly written but don’t read it now if you are in anyway affected by Leah, it is powerfully sad).

Has anyone mentioned that Leah worked for a finance company?

And before the finance company, she worked for MacDonalds.

5 Horrifying Things That Happen When You Go Missing | Cracked.com

This is an interesting (presumably true) story about someone who went missing and multiple encounters with the authorities. Obviously circumstances are very different with Leah but perhaps it may cause someone to consider something that had seemed insignificant at the time. I have not seen anything that may suggest Leah had any known mental health issues or traumatic background. It is clear that she is well-loved.

Interesting but perhaps more likely to happen in USA than UK for lots of reasons. It would be great if LeAh has just gone off but without money or phone, not sure how she’s manage. If she had gone off to the train for example, people would have seen her or there would be evidence of a train ticket bought.

I wonder if the police have a POI?

Was she seen by any of her family on morning of 15th - I thought her brother had seen her?

I have seen in MSM that she was seen at 8am on 15th but not by whom. It would make sense that it was her brother; where did you see or hear that?

Maybe I got it wrong I thought I’d read it in an early thread - just had a quick look and can’t see any reference other than the cctv was about 815 on 15th.

As you say perhaps it was in msm

She called someone at 8, didn't she?

I guess her phone records will show who. If potentially it was someone she was going to meet. Or I’m sure the police would have questioned that person.

I thought the wording was that her phone had been used. I don't recall it being stated she had called someone.

Yes, she used her phone - call, text or something

8.15am CCTV sighting would be after that last use of the phone so it would be more likely to be her using it than a stranger.

Just an fyi for anyone who is interested in LE in the UK and how they work cases, there is a fantastic series called 24 hours in police custody. It really is excellent and shows how they build cases for the CPS. Pretty sure it's on YouTube, well worth a watch.
