I wish we could but your sales figures are completely wrong for the Astra, thats coming from a VX insider. You're correct that Star Silver was the most sold colour, most of them got sold to hire companies from new, like enterprise, hertz etc, we knew this because the log books always told us, we used to buy them back at 14,000 miles at the most then resell them at our group of dealerships. Yet 1,000's per annum were leased/sold privately each year too.

On the whole, your post is irrelevant really because it just doesn't apply as car has been seized by the police anyway.

5th gen had a facelift in 2006 don't forget which changed certain features going forward. I can break every one of these features down if need be but it is just pointless. On Astras, wheels are the big give away along with a badge just on the wing of the car behind the front wheel to differenciate models along with interior trims.

The models they did then were the Life, Club, SXi, SRi, Elite and the VXR.
VXR was only a 3 door HP model.
Life, Club, SXi, SRi and Elite were both 5 door hatchback and estates.
SXi and SRi were also 3 door too as well as estates.
Hi Nick

Kind of you to say my post is irrelevant.

I think you've missed the point of the illustration.

People keep seeing silver Vauxhalls and assume it's all the same one.

I know the figures are wonky but it's just to illustrate there are lots of similar cars in the same area.

If you can add some accuracy with exact numbers of silver Astras in the area please help.

I'm sure it's more than 38. I wouldn't be surprised if there were 100's of them.

BTW they are not my sales figures, that's why I put the link there ;-)

Haha, £20 an hour nowadays to diagnose anything, including how to switch your headlights on and what indicators do ;)

Wish we could have you on-call for any auto help. :)

I had my engine light come on and I thought I was going to be smart and save some money so I bought one of those gadgets that you plug into the car to read the Engine Light Error Codes.

Set everything up and the error message told me some complicated technical message about some sort of "Bad Sensor Reading".

So I was out the money for the gadget and still had to pay the auto shop for a mechanic to work on it. :)

I guess I have to acknowledge that the early reports said that LS was known to have gone from the bench by 12:09am, and the following spider web cam footage from just feet away shows the car pulling of at seconds before/after (?) 12:09am, is far too coincidental to not be important

Thank you for yr expert knowledge, always great to hear someone giving facts rather than us squinting at grainy CCTV 1000 times and not really knowing what we see .

Chest, the figures you require are nearly impossible to exact for this particular area. I can only do national checks without delving into the DVLA systems which I won't do for this purpose.

Between 2004 and 2006, the Astra is still running strong with just over 71% registered back in that era, still on the road, IE, not written off, still with a valid logbook and either insured or not or sorn or not but definitely not written off, some may have been exported which is popular with EX-PATS in spain for eg.

Star Silver was the biggest seller like most manufacturers anyway. I can't be certain how many are in the HU postcodes but its a very common used car, just like the ford focus because they are dirt cheap to buy and very easy to maintain as well as being a good size for families etc and cheap to run too.

Apologies for me saying your post is irrelevant. The chances of two SXi silver 5 door hatchback Astra's being so local of the same age with the same wheels and being around Libby at the time she was last seen and also his house where they picked his car up from are remarkably slim to be honest. Working it out logically and breaking down model by model and probabilites based on figures available, I work it out at a 255,000 to 1 chance give or take a few thousand thats its his car.

Thats assuming he actually owns the car, if we can find the registration number of PR's car, I can find out who owns it.

Wouldn't the police need to have some other evidence, other than PR's word, that it was LS in the car with him (if indeed he has said that). Surely they would need some concrete evidence that she was gone from the bench by 12:09? As a key 'person of interest' I am guessing they're not taking his every word as the truth: the kind of 'word' they would choose to make public as fact, if you catch my drift.

I don't know if you saw the Google Maps Street view picture of the guy standing next to his silver car or the silver car passing by Libby on The Welly CCTV when her friend is calling for a taxi after she was refused entry. People are seeing silver cars and putting 1 and 1 together and getting a thousand. Every picture or still of a silver car is PR's (apparently).

I've no doubt you've spotted which car is his in the CCTV. Post was really aimed at the ooh it's a silver car brigade not someone with detailed knowledge of the subject. You should go on MasterMind with Vauxhalls as your specialist subject.

Does anyone think there is another person involved? can't find the link but referring to the girl chased towards fake taxi

We've absolutely no knowledge of what he's said.

It would not be a surprise if he's said absolutely nothing.

In my mind the only evidence that we know of pointing to that is a) the person who heard a woman scream, several voices and a sound like a wooden gate slamming and b) that spider cam man may have been texting someone on his phone while he was sitting in his car just before 12:09.

Thanks :)

Chest, yes I've seen all the info from the beginning, 3 CCTV footages are available to us all at the moment. The vehicle circled on the CCTV which is on Newlands, a police car is shown in front, then another car and then a silver comes along which was highlighted 10 minutes after the Howarth CCTV.

I can say clearly that this car is not the same car as the one on Howarth for certain. It's a VX Corsa 5 dr new shape from 2006 to 2011, I can that by the headlights, the rear windows and the rear bumper next to the tail lights nearest the footage. Different car completely.

Silver 5 dr cars look identical to the Joe Public people with respect. Even the cops will get mixed up unless they have a car specialist on board or within the team. Its not easy to spot unless you know these things.

As for mastermind haha, I'd take vintage Mercedes cars any day over anything ;)

I'm trying to find the link i read, I'm sure it was on here from local media of reports of a man frightening women and chasing them into the path of a fake taxi, the report said this particular girl ran to the taxi but saw it looked fake so ran off

And what model? Are you in the Uk or USA? I ask because you mention an autoshop which isn't a UK kind of phrase in the automotive world ;)

Police divers re-enter pond at Oak Road Playing Fields

Libby Squire latest as pond searched and vigil held

A police cordon has appeared in Oak Road Playing Fields on the approach to the fishing lake at the back of the playing fields.

14:57
Police presence at Oak Road Playing Fields
Police are back at Oak Road Playing Fields, which has been at the centre of police searches over the past few days.

16:48
Police are leaving Oak Road playing fields
Police are packing up for the day at Oak Road playing fields.

A van near the woodland area where police were cutting back bracken has left.

Officers have hacked down about 20m squared of bracken and have removed the cordon that initially sealed off the area where the search was taking place.

According to the local press Police divers were in the pond today, but also according to the press they were not searching the pond but were searching the bracken and edges.

I think there is confusion with these news sites as to what exactly happened when and where.

HOWEVER they have stated that at late afternoon today they removed the cordon around the pond, so have they given up on the park?

I have been there tonight and you can access the entire area around the park and the pond.
