Libby's dad speaks

Libby’s dad Russell has also spoken of his loss.

Libby's sister Beth lost the person she idolised

Libby’s little sister Beth has also spoken of her heartbreak in losing someone she looked up to.

She said: “Having to grow up around something so traumatic is not something a child should do.

"Such is the shifting of roles, losing a shared future of siblings. I suppose people have varying degrees of closeness with their siblings but Libby and I grew up to be friends.

"When I was little I idolised her and she provided me with unique advice. I now face a scary and unknown world without her support as the eldest sibling.

"I’m now the eldest and although that has been forced upon me, I hope I can follow her footsteps. We will miss her terribly.”

From the Mirror which is still a tabloid source but slightly better than the deadly trio of Sun, Mail and Express. It does have stuff about his background towards the bottom and about his wife - which as it's in the public domain should be ok.

The comment from a neighbour is a new and interesting insight into the 'loving husband and father' act. 'He shouted at her and treated her like a dog'.

I'm pretty sure the house in Raglan was rented so I'm guessing it's the landlord that's sold it

Thanks for this link. All the talk of his car and this is the first time I've read about him having a motorbike.

Do you mean the summing-up, before the jury retired? Judges have to be fair and impartial in their summing-up, otherwise it can be grounds for an appeal.

No I think it means in her sentencing speech.

Justice happened :) Law students (some of them anyway) might be up in arms about it but Justice Lambert told the jury to use common sense.
Common sense and the evidence.:)

I know one law student that isn't up in arms

Heartbreaking, her poor family. PR has destroyed so many lives and I really hope his sentence reflects that. JMO

No I think it means in her sentencing speech.
But that hasn't happened yet.

This is what I was replying to:
"I hope the judge will be brutal. I got the impression from her summary (at least what we saw) that she will not be. Fingers crossed i am mistaken."

Lisa Squire's heartbreaking victim impact statement

Lisa Squire begins reading out her victim impact statement.

She said: She said: “There are no words that can explain the torture of living without my Libby. She was a sister, a grandaughter, niece and cousin.

“I have not only lost my daughter but the opportunity to be a grandmother to her children. In any times of trouble she wanted me, her mum. Knowing I was not there when she needed me will haunt me for the rest of my life.

“I now live in two worlds where I live as a mother, wife, friend and employee but there is also a world that will run parallel and is a dark and lonely world. In this world I long to die so I can be with my girl. I wake up with disappointment that I will live another day."

You would have to be hard of heart not to cry upon reading that.

'I silently scream in pain'

Lisa continued: “This is a world where I silently scream in pain and pray that one day we will be reunited in a dream, a world where we constantly look for signs in every rainbow.

"A world I didn’t want to be in. Imagine wanting to live to be here with your children but one where you long to die so I can be with my child.

“There is nothing more amazing than hearing your child say I love you and she told me all of the time. I’m so proud of our beautiful, caring and wonderful girl.

"My memories of her are always in my thoughts and I will never allow our bond to be broken.”

I'm heartbroken here for the family and the mum and I don't even know them.

Murder was 'planned'

Justice Lambert is now taking submissions from prosecutor, Richard Wright QC.

He says the aggravating factors in the case are Libby’s vulnerability in the early hours of February 1, the sexual offending that facilitated the murder which was planned. He also says there was mental and physical suffering before Libby’s death.

He said: “It would have been obvious to Libby she was in grave danger.

“The deliberate placing of the body in the river affects the state of the body when it was found and of course, it may have never been found. It was by good fortune that it was at all.

"And, there is then perhaps the point of the steps taken to conceal the crimes by the washing of the clothing and laying a false trail.

“Mitigating factors could be that there wasn’t an intention to kill but the prosecution say placing the body in the river, death was inevitable.”
