Thought I'd take a fresh look at the CCTV and is anyone else struck by how short the person in the CCTV looks? i.e. barely the height of a 4ft 8in car?

Could be the angle I guess but not to the extent seen here. Someone said he appears ~5ft 9in at court which should mean literally being head and shoulders taller than that car when stood next to it.

Such a nuisance it is now dark or I'd go into the street to check this out.
Going over and over that spidercam again I can see what you mean, that driver isn't 5'9". I am 5'7" and I've measured 4'8" on myself (car height) which comes to a fraction below my shoulder +++ that driver is standing on a kerb of what 4" min ?

Just one point re the guy's height in relation to the car. You've factored in for a 4" kerb but there isn't one. Its a driveway so it's tarmac to tarmac.

Actually in this case there is no kerb to add any height. The car is parked across a drop kerb in front of the gates but even allowing for this he is stood right next to the car such he sits straight down to roll smoke/play with phone. Though the roof-line of the car can't be seen in the footage it does seem like the person is within 2-3 inches of it?

I guess it is all moot as I doubt we'll get any clearer footage or other CCTV that shows him stood next to an Astra!

Ah good point. For the car to have been caught where it was parked, on the cctv, it looks like it was parked over the gate entrance, which is a dropped kerb.

Unfortunately I think that's standard. High crime rate means low property value, which is appealing to landlords who want to purchase a property to rent out, and in a university town you're guaranteed tenants

The camera would need to be mounted at person height to be able to show the difference in height between car-roof and driver. It's filming from too high to make a comparison.

Re-the comparison of driver and car-roof height.
The camera would need to be mounted level with the driver and car to be able to make this comparison, but it's a CCTV and mounted much higher looking down on the subject.

It's a known fact from forensic psychological studies that when people are asked to recall information about a person's description, if the person is below-average height then people tend to overestimate their height, and if the person is over-average height then people tend to underestimate their height. So it's entirely possible that if PR is actually quite short then @Joelle88 may have actually overestimated how tall he is when she saw him in the court. Unless he was standing by a person she knew the exact height of to compare, or something relative (again, e.g. A doorway). Just to clarify, I'm not saying that you're wrong Joelle or that you've got a bad memory, it's a very common phenomenon for people (especially witnesses to crimes) to overestimate a short person's height.
