Screams could have come from an animal

The screaming was heard some 10-15 minutes after Relowicz left Oak Road.

But Mr Brewster admits he is not sure they were the screams of a woman.

Mr Wright said: “So far as what you actually heard is concerned, was there a bit of a dispute? You thought you had a screech or a scream from an animal and it was Hannah that said she thought it was a woman.

"You weren’t fully convinced and dismissed it as more of a cry from an animal and went on to say in your statement that even when you read about Libby you thought you could be wasting people’s time as you wasn’t sure it was a woman, is that right?”

Mr Brewster has confirmed this.

Neighbour heard screaming

Drew Brewster has now been called to the witness box.

Relowicz is looking up at the public gallery.

Mr Brewster says he was a student living on Claremont Avenue when Libby went missing.

The Hull reporter told me that Relowicz had no relatives in the gallery - she said there are some press and other people watching outside of the gallery on a screen so it's possible that he may have support watching from there

Looking at Libbys Parents again? How i wish we could hear his thoughts.

Iv been wondering about her jacket and why we haven't heard much about it? We found out she was found without it on. Its unlikely she took it off, as we've heard she was shivering with the cold and hyperthermic. It wasn't found in the park as far as I'm aware, so she didn't drop it... was it ripped off during a struggle? Did he grab her by the arm and it pulled off (like the watch) as she tried to fend him off? I'm guessing he disposed of it in the river

It's disturbing to me that he keeps looking at her parents. Wish he could be screened off or something that he can't see them. JMO

If he had one iota of remorse,he would be too ashamed to look in the direction of Libby's parents.

Neighbour heard “high-pitched female scream”

Mr Brewster's partner Hannah Durkin has been called to the witness box.

She says it was at around 12.30am that she last checked her phone on February 1.

Miss Durkin said she heard a “high-pitched female scream”.

She said: “I told Drew to be quiet so I could listen further and I heard it around three times. It lasted five to ten seconds each scream and there was a period of 15 to 20 second between the screams that I heard.

“My bedroom was at the back of the house. It sounded like it was coming from the right hand side of Oak Road playing fields. It was just screams that I heard.

“It sounded panicking, that was my initial thought.”

Miss Durkin said she decided to call the police after seeing reports that Libby had gone missing after being dropped off at Wellesley Avenue, “just a few streets away.”

BBM. Boom! Yes! There it is, why would he return after the rape, there could have been police in the area. He knew Libby was not there alive. That is a huge very important point made by the prosecution. He returned to put her in the water I believe. I think he killed her during or after the rape, I think the rape happened either in his car or she got out and ran to escape him forcing himself on her. I think he left her there and only came back later on to put her body in the water. And on foot.. he probably thought it was too dark for cameras to catch him walking, didn’t want his car seen in the area a second time.

I agree, gave him time to think about what he had done and work out what he was going to do. If he put Libby in the water then, he has thought that he has got away with it and maybe thats why he masturbated in the street?

Jacket and top were both missing i think? could they have got snagged and pulled off up river, and still be there?

Relowicz said: “I just didn’t want police to know I had sex with her, I didn’t want my wife to find out and I didn’t want police to know because I didn’t know if it was illegal or not.”

"I didn’t know if it was illegal or not.” So he's admitting he considered at the time it might be rape? Why would he add this to the end of his answer when he didn't need to? Is he thick?

It would appear so JMO

I assume he would claim he means he didn’t know if outdoor/public sex was illegal.

  • #153
My child has a similar jacket, it does slip off quite fluidly and it pretty heavy. I've washed hers and that (water logged) makes it quite heavy ... I can imagine it coming off quite easily in the river.

If that were true - If no one saw ... who's going to tell?

  • #155
He's panicking on the stand, losing track of his lies and his stories, he's probably realising now he's not fooling anyone JMO

Nobody, but the police already knew and were questioning him; he was answering the question why did he lie to them about getting out of the car (see below)

Relowicz admits lying about getting not getting out of his car

Mr Wright said: “If you’re telling the truth about having consensual sex with that girl and not attacking her, what reason did you have to lie about getting out of your car for four and a half minutes?”

Relowicz said: “I just didn’t want police to know I had sex with her, I didn’t want my wife to find out and I didn’t want police to know because I didn’t know if it was illegal or not.”

and if it takes 5-7 mins to kill someone?
Yes, I was just looking back on Sam Alford's testimony and while I think he may have over-estimated some of his times I can't ignore the fact that they must have lasted several minutes at least, after about 12:15, for him to recollect different periods of screams and intervals.

If Libby was screaming after the rape, he hadn't asphyxiated her during the rape.
If Libby was screaming because she thought he was going to rape her, that means she hadn't yet been raped by at least about 12:17 - and that means shortening the screams SA heard to just 2 minutes overall. I think the pauses and patterns suggest it was longer than 2 minutes. If he hadn't raped her by 12:17 I don't think there's any chance he managed to rape her and get her in the river and himself back to the car by fast walk, in less than two minutes.
If Libby was screaming during the rape the same applies - he had to have asphyxiated her when the screams stopped and my impression, from the pattern noticed, is she was still screaming beyond the time he would have left her (12:17-12:18) to get back to his car.

I don't think he could have asphyxiated her.

Reminder of SA's testimony

Mr Alford said: “Initially, some screams were intermittent with 30 seconds or a minute between them. At first I sort of ignored them then the second one was a pattern to them and then that’s what sort of made me think - it’s hard because where I live is near the uni accommodation is teenagers on the park, girls screaming, people out having parties on the park so you tend to ignore it. It happens all the time.

“Then I heard the screams again and when I looked I couldn’t see anyone on the park. The screams were enough to make me think, ‘what could that be?’ but it was the pattern - they weren’t constant and that’s what sort of stood out for me.

Is anyone else not convinced by the 12.30 'screams' witness statements?

Sams testimony is much more convincing to me, seeing as he identied the screams as human, got up to look and saw 'a man' leaving the park.

It’s gone very quiet, didn’t appear that prosecution cross examined first witness re time

Did he not say previously he had washed his own clothes that night or am I mistaken?
Apologies if already answered, I'm still catching up

This was his testimony:

'Emotionally broken' for cheating on his wife
Relowicz says his wife did not know about him having sex with Libby but asked why he had gone out.

He says he told her he had been “running.”

He says he washed his clothes as his trousers were wet and had green marks and he wanted to “hide” this from his wife.

Relowicz said: “I was emotionally broken down that I had cheated on my wife.”

edit - Yes I see @bos already got there before me. Apologies.
