So now it appears there is absolutely no proof at all that Lindsay was anywhere near The Coppice that afternoon. I think it's more likely that she was walking into Accrington when seen on CCTV on Burnley Road so hopefully the police will be searching through any CCTV footage they have from around the town. I think it would be worth checking footage from the bus and railway stations in case Lindsay for some reason had decided to take off that day.

I just don't believe this. What a nightmare. So now we don't know where she walked or at what time?

Only at 4.06 on the Burnley Road. This is from the Lancashire Telegraph earlier this evening:

CCTV footage shows Lindsay at 4:06pm on that Monday on Burnley Road walking in the general direction of Accrington.

An earlier suggestion that a witness had seen her in Peel Park Avenue later that afternoon have now been ruled out entirely following further investigation.

This information was a genuine mistake by a witness trying their very best to help.

The sighting on Burnley Road is the last time Lindsay was seen.

Does anyone know if The Coppice can be used as a shortcut from Huncoat to Accrington? I live in Accrington, but I've never walked around the area, and, am unfamiliar with the route Lindsay may have taken. With the police saying that despite the Peel Park Avenue sighting being ruled out, they still believe that she entered The Coppice. Because of the unreliability of the witness, does this mean that the police are no longer looking for the man and the black dog? So little information available.

Argh, how frustrating that they've now ruled out the witness! :(

Yes there is a footpath from The Coppice that leads into Huncoat, CrimeDawg posted a map on page 5 of this thread.

If the police say the witness is mistaken then why do they still believe Lindsay entered The Coppice? And at what time are they talking about now - 4.30? 6.30? If they want local people to help with possible sightings then they should be more clear on times IMO.

Coronation Street star Brooke Vincent, who plays Sophie Webster in the top soap, has posted an appeal on twitter about the search and Great British Bake Off winner John Waite has featured the search on his Instagram account.

CCTV footage shows Lindsay at 4:06pm on the day she disappeared on Burnley Road walking in the general direction of Accrington.

They are still keen to speak to any dog walkers in the area who have not yet spoken to the police or anyone who was in the Burnley Rd area around 4pm on the 12th and may have dashcam footage.

Its a nightmare. Imagine if that house CCTV wasn't available (which granted isn't that helpful) they wouldn't have a single clue.
The dedicated Facebook page has had to turn comments off on certain posts because everything is so just becoming confused.

Thank you for the map info. The time the police are now concentrating on is close to 4.03 pm as this was the last sighting of Lindsay on cctv

I've been wondering the same regarding the police concentrating on The Coppice. Could it be because Lindsay has not been seen on cctv leaving The Coppice, or, anywhere else?

Or, leaving anywhere else I should have said

Thanks for posting this imstilla.grandma.

So now we have a timeline of sorts. Lindsay left her home around 4.00 (i believe last week it was stated her phone was switched off at 3.58, so presumably this was the time she left). Then Lindsay was spotted on CCTV at 4.06 but after checking other footage from further down the Burnley road the police say there is no sign of her. This is why they believe she turned off up Peel Park Avenue around 4.10 - 4.15 and headed towards The Coppice.

I wonder if Lindsay regularly walked from The Coppice via the footpath that leads back to her home in Huncoat?

Detectives investigating the disappearance of Lindsay Birbeck have released images of a potential witness.

The man captured in CCTV was seen in the area at the time the mum-of-two was believed to have left her home address on Burnley Road, Accrington. This was around 4pm on August 12.

The sighting at The Salon on Burnley Road was around 4.15pm

The police ruled out the sighting at The Salon on Friday:

"We are aware of speculation about a reported sighting of Lindsay at The Salon on Burnley Road around 4.15pm on the 12th.

"This sighting has been investigated and Lindsay does not pass CCTV cameras along Burnley Road towards these premises at the relevant time."

They believe she turned up Peel Park Avenue rather than carry on walking along Burnley Road.

There are unconfirmed local reports a body has been found in Accrington cemetry I drove past and there were three police cars at the top near the entrance and looked like a police van inside
