He looks fairly young, I'm guessing no older than 20. Is it just me or does he have a sort of traveller look about him?
I don't know. He seems to me to look pretty clean-cut.

OMG you have got to be kidding me! I am really shocked at this turn of events. Poor Lindsay :(

How utterly bizarre. You never see anyone doing this with a wheeled bin. You move it out to the street and back again, period. Did not anyone notice this strange behavior?

The CCTV shows a man walking along Burnley Road towards Accrington at about 2.30pm on August 17th

WE have today (Tuesday, August 27th) released footage of a man we are treating as a suspect in the hunt for Lindsay Birbeck’s killer.

The CCTV shows a man walking along Burnley Road towards Accrington at about 2.30pm on August 17th - five days after Lindsay disappeared - pulling a blue wheelie bin.

After he passes this camera the man turns down Whitewell Road towards the cemetery.

A bin similar to the one in the footage was found near the scene where Lindsay was discovered at Accrington Cemetery.

Detective Supt Andy Cribbin, of the Force Major Investigation Team, is leading the murder inquiry.

He said: “The man in these images is now a suspect in our investigation and I am appealing for the public’s help to try and identify him. If anyone thinks they know who this person is I would urge them to come forward and contact us urgently.

“I am however conscious that there could be a perfectly reasonable explanation for this footage so if this is you in these images then I would ask you to come and speakmeteryscovery on Saturday evening (August 24th) of a woman’s body at Accrington Cemetery, Burnley Road detOur

We are aware of rumours circulating on social media about what may have happened to Lindsay and for the family’s sake we once again would urge people not to speculate as this is causing her loved ones significant additional distress at what is clearly an extremely difficult time for them.

A large team of detectives, uniformed officers and staff are working on the enquiry to establish what happened to Lindsay after she went missing and to identify who was responsible for her death. No arrests have been made at this stage.

Detectives are carrying out a review of CCTV, doing house to house enquiries and trying to piece together Lindsay’s movements since she was captured on CCTV on Burnley Road at just after 4pm on Monday, August 12th.

Detective Supt Cribbin added: “I understand that people in the community will be concerned about what has happened and we are doing all we can to try to find out what has happened to Lindsay so we can reassure people and provide answers for her family.

“There are a large number of police in and around the Burnley Road area and if anyone has any concerns they should speak to an officer but I would urge people to go about the lives as usual.”

As a reminder Lindsay was last seen wearing a purple Rab bubble jacket, black leggings, a white shirt with blue pin stripes and black trainers with a white sole. Her Huawei mobile phone is also missing.

Exactly! It would be SO WEIRD to see someone wheeling a big trash can down the street! This is crazy.

I don't get it. How is it possible that the bin and the body were both in the cemetery for ten days and no one noticed?
Seriously!

Wow seems an understatement. Just catching up and so sorry to see she was found deceased in the cemetery, not far from where she was last seen. The CCTV photo is stunning. What the heck? How terrible for her.

Thank goodness that picture is clear. He will soon be caught IMO.

That doesn't make a lot of sense. If you're going to leave the bin at the scene, why not just leave the body in it?

OMG :(

Makes me feel sick seeing that photo of him pulling the bin.

Regarding your last question there's something about that in the comments on the post about this on the Lanchashire Telegraph facebook page.

I just checked the bin colours in the area and the blue bins are for glass, cans and mixed plastic. Even when my recycling bin is full it's not that heavy that I need to lug it with two hands. It would have looked very suspicious to see him struggling with it down the road IMO.

Y'all might have figured I was fixin' to bust out a map, and ... here it is. I think I have identified the location where the CCTV of the young man was taken to be the building at the northeast corner of Burnley and Whitewell. I have circled it on the map and also including a google maps link. I have marked the location of the body was found in the cemetery with a red X between the tall hedgerow and the copse of trees near the train tracks. I also marked with an X the CCTV location where we last saw Lindsay.

The question is, where did blue wheelie man come from, and where did he have Lindsay for 5 flippin days?

I don't know exactly how he got from 301 Whitewell to the body location site. Did he go through the entrance off of Whitewell? Or is there another way via the footpath? How did no one notice this...

Excellent. Thank you.

It looks like Lindsay was spotted on CCTV opposite the Whittakers Arms bus stop, which is very near the main cemetery entrance. The guy with the wheelie bin was seen about 100 yards down the road and would have entered the cemetery from the side entrance. The body was found beyond the graves somewhere on the grass area on the top left of the attached photo.

Map source: Google Maps; CCTV locations from comparing released CCTV pictures with Google Maps.

Where did the guy come from? Did he walk past the main entrance or he came from the other side of the road?

Also, it was GREY bin day on the 17th, the day of the CCTV, not blue. Another thing that would have looked out of place.

He looks about the same age as my 17 year old son! And how on earth when there was a search for a missing woman going on did he get away with dragging a blue bin in broad daylight? This gets worse and worse. Poor Lindsay!
