Shane Mays convicted of murder
Shane Mays has been found guilty of murdering 16-year-old Louise Smith by jurors at Winchester Crown Court after deliberations lasting two hours and 21 minutes.

There were gasps in the public gallery when the foreman returned the verdict.

Flanked by two security officers in the dock, Mays betrayed no emotion at the verdict.

Mrs Justice May will sentence Mays tomorrow.

I am expecting him to be given the longest sentence it is possible to be given.

I do hope so, theres no mitigating circumstances other than his last minute manslaughter plea

Shane Mays, appearing in a grey jumper and positioned in the dock at the rear of the courtroom, was asked to stand as the verdict was given by the jury foreman.

He gave little reaction as he found out he was guilty.

I still get nervous waiting for a verdict even when it's absolutely nailed on.

He was also given a caution for handling stolen goods when he was aged 18. He said that he had unwittingly bought a stolen bike online.

However, a former friend told MailOnline today that Mays used to steal from his mother's house and from other relatives and sell the goods at a second hand store near Portsmouth.

The one-time pal revealed: 'He'd head to the shop with bric-a-brac items that he'd stolen and sell them on.

'His mum would come in a few days later and demand to the shop owners that the items were stolen and they should give them back but they never did as they'd been bought in good faith.'
