GUILTY UK - Louise Smith, 16, Havant, Hampshire, 8 May 2020 *Arrest*

I only guessed that there was a lot of hurtful things said, as sometimes Social Media can descend into mud slingling. Makes me wonder then, why the family requested the page shut down, as it was mainly to help find Louise?

It is certainly very strange, although because there wasn’t much discussion allowed on there and all they were really doing was putting the news reports and police updates on there it wasn’t particularly raising much awareness. Don’t get me wrong I know certain comments can hinder the investigation which is probably why no real discussions were allowed. Reading between the lines am I right in saying we cannot discuss individual social media comments?

You are correct. We cannot discuss individual SM comments, only mainly releases from official sources. Quite a few people here are reading the SM from the people involved but as they have not been named by LE or main stream media, we cannot discuss here.

Im guessing the immediate family are privvy to the police investigation but cannot discuss. Hence the frustration.

Ok I’m hoping I don’t overstep the mark with anything I say then, I’m sure if I do I will be pulled up on it. It’s strange you say about the family because I first learned of Louise’s disappearance mid-week it was one of Havant Police posts on their FB page, the one which first mentioned the arrests in the case but 5 minutes later it was gone. Turns out the family had not been told that this information was going to be made public. So the post was deleted but 5 minutes later Waterlooville police posted it on their FB page. To me it feels as if the family are almost trying to block certain things (can I say that)

It is hard not to discuss social media comments as quite a lot has been played out in public. It shows that the only real facts are the ones presented by the investigation team at present as the rest have been questioned and changed and suggested to be blatant lies by potentially guilty parties.

Magicslipper do you know if there has been any clarification as to whether the issue surrounding the phone, related to Emsworth Skate Park or Havant Skate Park? It seems unlikely to have been Emsworth due to the location that she was last seen at? I did read today that the mention of Emsworth was a mistake, which is not particularly helpful.
Hi Deppy and welcome :) I honestly don't know. I know they were looking in the bins around West leigh skate Park the other day . Yes, I saw the same info as you about Emsworth, I wonder why that was put out there ?
The filming was by ITN news on VE Day it looked like a street in West Leigh.
This is such a close community it's awful.
My youngest is 19 but everybody knows everybody in the area so you hear bits and pieces all the time.
I really feel for Louise's Mum it must be torture reading all those comments but I can imagine it must be a case of hoping somebody posts something that may lead to her whereabouts.
Feelings were running high earlier about some people wanting to search the local area but the police trying to discourage this, they must have their reasons.
It's getting late here , hoping they find her soon

It must be torture for her family seeing this all played out so publicly . It's a double edged sword social media , they need it for the word to get out there in case someone somewhere know something but at the same time it must be so painful

It’s very frustrating reading some SM comments as you can tell they are simply wanting to inject themselves into the investigation. A bit like people wanting to go out and search after being specifically asked by the police NOT to. Then people question why they can’t do that. It’s not for the public to question this. The public can help by checking CCTV, dashcam footage etc, that’s what would be helpful right now, not second guessing and questioning everything that the police share. I had to remind somebody of the ever so complicated 101 number earlier after they felt it only right to share information publicly.

Thank you for the welcome! Yes, it really is a close knit community and ok, although in the past it hasn’t had the best of reputations and the area certainly does have its characters (what area doesn’t) but when something like this happens we really do come together and show support. I know Cosham got a lot of bad press that day for that one street and it’s VE Day celebrations but that is pretty much the only filming I saw. The reason I ask about Emsworth/Havant skate park is because I’m only about a two minute drive away from Emsworth skate park and it suddenly dawned on me about an hour ago something strange that happened that night, it maybe absolutely nothing but I will be calling 101 first thing! I would rather share information that turns out to be useless than sit on it, wondering if I should share it.

You sure can post if you think anything was untoward in the area that night.

You never know Deppy , you may think its nothing but it could be important .
I am lucky enough to be able to work from home and to get my food online so I have not left my house since March :) I live so close to the gardens I can see into it from my upstairs window , I keep racking my brains and trying to think back if I did hear anything unusual.
There have been so few people walking along my street within the past few weeks I am sure if there was any unusual activity near me I would have heard or seen it .
It's the people that make Leigh Park , I honestly wouldn't want to live anywhere else .
I think Louise disappearing has hit the area really hard.

I can’t believe I didn’t think of it earlier! I had to check my messages to my daughter because when it happened I text her straight away! I looked back on my messages and sure enough it was that night, 8th May 10:37pm. Like I say, I’m sure it’s nothing. In fact I suggested to my daughter at the time that it may have had something to do with the thefts in the area relating to those electric scooters. Magicslipper I don’t know if you have heard about those, again it’s only posts I’ve seen on SM, totally unrelated to this case but that’s why I never thought of it in relation to Louise.

No , I don't think I did hear about this.
We have been plagued with motorbikes and cars speeding in the early hours since the lockdown and somebody was saying about a car doing doughnuts in the early hours.

Wasn't there a car that crashed into that garden in Purbrook Way up near Asda roundabout on the morning of 9th May that was being chased by the police now I think about it ?

It's nearly 1am here and I have to be up early in the morning so will turn in for the night.
Stay safe everyone. Hoping and praying to hear good news tomorrow .

Yes I believe there was an accident, the police closed Purbrook Way whilst they dealt with it, not heard anymore about that. I’m hoping I can say this but four men in a silver BMW have been holding people at knife point/machete and stealing their electric scooters, around LP and Emsworth. Bloody terrifying, the last one I heard of was a 14 year old boy in Emsworth. I have just searched “silver BMW” on FB and at least 6 people have said they were robbed by them. Hence why I put what happened on the 8th down to this. Will call 101 first thing and report what I saw.

Yes I’m off to bed, if any moderators need to delete my posts please do, still learning the ropes with what can and can’t be said, so apologies if I’ve said something I shouldn’t! Let’s hope tomorrow is the day we get some good news.

The CCTV images, released by police as concerns grow for Louise Smith, show the 16-year-old visiting a Tesco on the evening before she vanished.

On Wednesday night Hampshire Constabulary released previously unseen CCTV images of Louise at Tesco around 7.30pm on May 7.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said officers will be 'covering the whole area' and now the park's lake 'will be covered as part of searches'.

Chief Inspector Alex Reading said: 'If you live in Leigh Park and have CCTV footage from Thursday May 7 and Friday May 8, please save it if this is possible, and do not delete it.

'Officers are systematically working their way through the area making enquiries so would be keen to collect it from you when they reach you.

'Alternatively, you can make contact us directly and we can arrange for an officer to attend to collect it and view it.

'We are not expecting the public to view it all themselves to see if there is anything significant - you can leave that part to us. We are keen to secure as much CCTV footage as possible as part of enquiries.'

Earlier this week Hampshire Constabulary said mobile phone footage of VE Day celebrations filmed in Havant could be key to their investigation.

Shades of Lucy McHugh with that CCTV image... Hopefully a better outcome.

A few people are comparing it to other cases and I have my own case which I would say it had similarities too but I don’t know the family so I could be way off the mark!

I also have a UK case in mind ..an unusual one but keeping to myself at the minute as it goes against group rules
