Police searching for the missing six year old Lucas Dobson say the river is now their sole focus, given the time that has passed since he disappeared. They are advising members of the public not to go to the area so experts have the space to continue their specialist work.

Lucas Dobson: River Stour search for missing boy enters fourth day

The search for a six-year-old boy, missing after he fell into a Kent river, has entered its fourth day.

Kent Police, fire crews, the Coastguard and divers reconvened in the morning.

Lucas was fishing with his father on Saturday when he slipped into the River Stour in Sandwich.

Peter Faulding, of the Specialist Group International dive team, said people were "pulling out all the stops" and "working incredibly hard" to find Lucas.

He said it was proving to be a "very difficult search" due to incoming and outgoing tides.

He added: "There is a very fast water flow. My divers are on safety lines, and still get washed along.

"There are a lot of obstructions on the bottom of the river, too, and lots of dense reeds. There is zero vision."

The team is using high-frequency side scan sonar, which scans the riverbed and creates crystal-clear images of the miles of river they are scouring.

‘I don’t think the dangers of the water have been lost on anybody since the weekend and, as difficult as it is for us to ask, we are requesting people stay away from physically helping us search the river. This is for their own safety as well as that of emergency service workers in the area.’ Experts from the emergency services are continuing to use specialist equipment in order to find Lucas – including sonar detectors, underwater cameras, divers, dogs and drones. On Monday night, Lucas’s aunt, Maciee Stanford, shared a post on Facebook showing pictures of her and Lucas and candles that were lit by members of the community in support of the family.

Those who attended were asked to wear something red, which is Lucas’ favourite colour, with people being urged to #LightUpTheCoastForLucas.

In a huge outpouring of support, hundreds upon hundreds of people turned up to the vigil in Deal, including Lucas’ mother, Kirsty Furze, who led crowds along the pier.

The precession made their way in silence along Deal Pier, with Kirsty at the front clutching on to a red balloon, a bouquet of flowers and a candle.

More than a hundred candles were also placed around the fisherman statue on the seafront in a touching display.

Simon Brady, Kirsty's cousin, addressed the crowd on the family's behalf, his voice wavering as he thanked volunteers for their continued support.

Lucas’ aunt Maciee Stanford also attended the vigil last night, her face stained with tears.
