Novichok fear sends chill through Salisbury’s homeless
"Novichok fear sends chill through Salisbury’s homeless
Outside the hostel where the latest victims of poisoning were well known, the tourist city reveals its darker side"
"Josh Harris has little more than his tracksuit bottoms and his beloved dog. Everything else he owns is inside the John Baker House hostel, which was suddenly evacuated on Thursday as authorities rushed to cordon off areas frequented by the couple at the centre of Salisbury’s latest nerve agent poisoning.

“We couldn’t go back into John Baker to grab anything. I’ve lost the lot."
"Harris thinks that Rowley may have touched the vessel containing the deadly nerve agent while “bin diving” – retrieving unwanted electrical items from wheelie bins to sell at the local Cash Converters.

“He goes bin diving like a lot of people do. But now after what has happened I’m not going,” he says.

The last time he saw Sturgess was on the Friday morning. “She wasn’t herself whatsoever. She was confused, spaced, not with it,” he says."

So if it came from a bin the contaminated object must have been discarded recently as bins are usually emptied regularly.

Any links for the Iran, Slovakia and other statements above? Eg.. it can be madeanywhere and the Skripals walked around for hours after contamination.??

Skripals were supposedly poisoned by novichok placed on their door knob, yet they became sick (showed symptoms) long after leaving their house, since they ate at the restaurant, where they were over an hour, and collapsed on the bench.

Key moments in the case of former spy Sergei Skripal

What is not clear to me is if Rowley was the bin hunter, why would Dawn be sickened first?
They keep posting the cctv of DS shopping for alcohol before she became ill, re posting in case there is something pertinent there. Are the blurred people in the video all customers?
Coincidentally, the pics repeatedly shown of the S's prior to falling ill, also shows them drinking alcohol.
"This is the moment Novichok victim Dawn Sturgess was captured on CCTV buying alcohol just over 24 hours before she was found frothing at the mouth and taken into intensive care. The footage, obtained exclusively by MailOnline, shows the blonde and gaunt addict smiling and laughing at an off licence at the bottom of Rollestone Street in Salisbury, where her homeless hostel is located, unaware that by Saturday she would be fighting for her life. Ozzy Hayatsu, the owner of the Best 1 Local off licence who sold her four cans of Karpackie beer for £6.99, said: 'She seemed happy."

Yulia and Sergei Skripal at Zizzi in Salisbury, the same restaurant they went to for lunch before they were poisoned.

So with both couples they take ill after taking alcohol?

I guess he could have found the item but she handled it more? But they seem to just be speculating that the item was from something he found dumpster diving.

Wth are Karpakie beers? £ 7 for 4 cans is dear.

Zizzi's has never reopened so is it still contaminated?
Eta Karpakie is a very strong Polish beer 9%. Just googled it. :-)

Not necessarily the case, no idea how that would happen with different types of alcohol bought/ingested in two different settings, but the cctv and photos in both sets of poisonings might suggest otherwise.
From what little i might understand about novichuk , it becomes active when 2 components are mixed together.
Crazy thought, forgive me scientists! But what if alcohol had some property that " activated " the poison?
imo, speculation.rbbm.

Novichok agent - Wikipedia
Novichok (Russian: Новичо́к, "newcomer") is a series of nerve agents developed by the Soviet .... Small amounts of the Novichok nerve agent were subsequently produced in some NATO countries for ..... Novichok agents may consist of two separate 'non-toxic' components that, when mixed, become the active nerve agent.

Although the victim's hands indicated that they had handled the poison, wondering if they stepped on the substance and it was transferred to hands when they each removed their shoes?
Maybe Dawn was first to take off her shoes so she was the one to get sick first?
Speculation, imo.
UK 'won't jump to conclusions' after new novichok poisoning
Rbbm.
"Sources with knowledge of the investigation, being led by Scotland Yard’s counter-terrorism unit, confirmed swabbing skin from Sturgess and Rowley had proved crucial in determining they had been poisoned by novichok after handling it.

Scientists examined swabs taken from them as they lay critically ill in Salisbury district hospital. The greatest concentration of novichok was found on their hands. That led scientists at Porton Down to tell investigators the couple had handled whatever the contaminated item was.

Sturgess and Rowley were not targeted for assassination, police believe, and their contamination is thought to be a result of the recklessness of whoever possessed the novichok."

I agree. It would be absurd if the government allowed the city to re-use a likely contaminated dumpster that was used in the first cleanup. Does anyone know if they reused the initial cleanup dumpsters?

Not a hope of finding those responsible and holding them accountable the Russian government frequently gets away with murder. The intelligence service will know a lot more than the public do.

If this were a clumsy spy novel, those with the poison would have left it somewhere it could poison unlikely civilians in order to take focus off the original international element.

It's all quite strange.

Very, very strange, indeed. But wouldn't it make sense to poison unlikely civilians first or at least in more close proximity to intended targets?
