Police have launched an investigation after the body of a woman was found near a south Manchester cricket club.

Emergency services were called to Brookthorpe Avenue, Burnage, at around 3pm on Monday (May 5) following reports of a body found nearby. The area was cordoned off as officers carried out enquiries.

The force have now confirmed the body of a woman, who has yet to be identified, was found.

Everything we know so far​

• Police were called to Brookthorpe Avenue in Burnage at around 3pm on Monday where the body of a woman was found nearby.
• She has not yet been identified. It is also unclear how old she is.
• Police said a Home Office post-mortem has been authorised.
• An investigation has been launched, but it cannot be said at this time whether the death is being treated as suspicious.
• Neighbour said they saw officers combing the grass at the former Burnage cricket club yesterday.
• A blue forensic tent is visible at the back of the field and the area remains cordoned off on Tuesday (May 6).

The cordon this morning is at the former site of Burnage cricket club, which has now closed. The below map shows Brookthorpe Avenue and the former cricket club, which are located around 100m away from each other.

It's about 120 miles away so unlikely to be linked imo

its a 2hr cardrive from leamington warwickshire

we cant deduce anything at this point she went missing 3 weeks ago its even possible she went to some other place more far than this

we dont know if this jasmine has any links in brookthorpe ave

hey did anybody see that blue tent forensics pic there

in that pic the neighbor is like covered by well fortified fences so if it was an outsider who would take the risk to jump a fence that high

i saw the street view image of the brookthorpe avenue

this does seem like a murder like a cricket field? out of all places?

I'm guessing that the property has been derelict for some time, based on the photographs. That aerial shot, the green patch is probably the right size for a cricket oval, and there's no ghost of where the pitch was or any signs it's been maintained by a groundskeeper.

I’m guessing this body has been placed there fairly recently as I think residents of that house would start smelling things
