We are continuing to appeal for help to trace 28-year-old Marc Drostle who has been reported missing.

Marc is believed to have travelled to the Aviemore area from London on Thursday, 12 December, 2024.

Several sightings of him have been reported in the Abernethy National Nature Reserve, near Nethy Bridge, between Thursday, 19 December and Saturday, 21 December, 2024.

He is believed to have been seen in the Anagach woods area, Grantown around 3pm on Tuesday, 24 December, 2024.

Marc is described as white, around 5ft 9in tall, slim build, with dark hair. He is believed to be wearing a black puffer jacket and carrying a blue rucksack.

Inspector Ross McCartney said: “Concern for Marc’s wellbeing continues to grow and we are appealing to anyone with any information on where he may be to come forward.

“We also ask people to check gardens, sheds and outbuildings in case he has sought shelter.

“Anyone with sightings or information of where Marc may be should call Police Scotland on 101 and quote reference 1774 of 21 December.”

I truly hope he’s safe and he has shelter. I live not far from Grantown and we have weather warnings for snow and ice for the next few days. It was mild over Christmas, but it’s cold out tonight.

It's quite an expanse of woodland where he was last seen. "Not been feeling good for some time" - he might have decided to go off for a bit to clear his head. It appears he was visiting different places in the area. He could have picked up a tent in an outdoor shop in Aviemore or elsewhere. I hope this is not another tragic story.

Sad news on Police Scotland facebook page today:

Around 7.50am on Thursday, 13 February, 2025 officers attended a woodland area in Nethy Bridge, Strathspey after a body was found.

Emergency services, including mountain rescue, attended and the body of a man was recovered.

Formal identification is still to take place, however the family of 28-year-old Marc Drostle, who was reported missing from Aviemore on Saturday, 21 December, 2024, have been made aware.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Sad outcome. There were on-and-off searches in the woodland area at Nethy Bridge for nearly two months.
