Police hunt pub gunman who shot dead man 'in targeted attack' in front of horrified drinkers
Detectives are hunting a gunman who shot dead a drinker in a busy pub in broad daylight.

The man, named locally as Marlon O'Reilly, was fatally wounded shortly before 6pm yesterday evening when shots were fired at the Dovecote pub in the Cockshut Hill area of Birmingham.

The killer managed to flee the scene before armed police arrived and sealed the area off.

Police are describing the shooting as a targeted attack and say that they are following a 'number of lines of inquiry'.

Dove Cote pub shooting: One man killed as armed police close off Birmingham streets

A man who gunned down a drinker in a Birmingham pub calculated 'assassination' has been jailed for life.

When Paul Davies fired five shots at close range into 33-year-old Marlon O'Reilly it may have been a case of mistaken identity... The shooting at the Dovecote pub in Yardley on May 10, the court was told, was likely to have been a revenge attack for an incident at a gym when a number of men were attacked earlier that day.

The judge said "You were in the pub for less than 45 seconds. It was a preplanned and calculated execution." He said it was possible the bullets had been meant for someone sitting next to Mr O'Reilly. The judge added: "This was a pre-meditated assassination of a kind and gentle man who had done nothing to bring it upon himself."
