Yes, she was released but with a new identity. There is a permanent ban on the media (or anyone else, I imagine) tracking her down and/or revealing her new identity. It's known she has a child but AFAIK nothing else is known about her.

I’ve just finished reading a (fiction) book about a 10 year old girl who killed a 5 year old boy, definite echoes of Mary. An interesting insight into how lifelong anonymity might work. Bell is one of only 6 people in the UK granted it.

An easy read and typical of the current trend in crime novels, very twisty, but I’ve not seen this subject covered before and I enjoyed it!

just watched a video on mary bell and finding out she'd been released and is literally out and about and has a child (or multiple) and is a grandmother.... after murdering two small babies. it's so awful ):
