GUILTY UK - Mee Kuen "Deborah" Chong, 67, Wembley, London, decapitated in woods, Salcombe, Jun 2021 *arrest

  • #261

A self-styled healer will become the first woman to be sentenced on television after being found guilty of murdering her friend, whose headless body was dumped in Devon.

On Friday, Judge Richard Marks KC will be broadcast handing down his sentence at the Old Bailey.

It is only the second time cameras have been allowed into an English criminal crown court to record a sentencing, and the first in which the defendant is a woman.

I'm watching Sky News on TV. It's delayed atm though.

I'm so fascinated to see her in the flesh after everything that's been said about her odd behaviour and that unnerving smile.

Oh, that's a shame. Still, a historic shift. I wonder how long it will be before proceedings themselves are televised or shown online, as in the US. Surely only a matter of time.

It's utterly tedious watching the business news while we wait.

Hearing delayed slightly after request from defence team

We understand the hearing has been delayed slightly, apparently due to a request for more time from Mitchell's defence team.
It is hoped proceedings will get under way at around 10.30.

Jemma Mitchell arrives in court

Jemma Mitchell is now in court ahead of her sentencing.
She is seen mouthing "hello mummy" to her mother, who is sitting in the public gallery and blows kisses in response.
We're just waiting for the live stream to begin, which is due to happen as soon as the judge enters the courtroom at the Old Bailey.

Did you see the state of the house when the police came to arrest her. What a nightmare! If that's not a warning to think twice before embarking on large home project, I don't know what is..

34 years less time served (she's been on remand over a year).

Jemma Mitchell sentencing - live updates: Woman who murdered and decapitated friend Mee Kuen Chong being sentenced

Listening to the sentencing remarks makes it clear she must have thought she'd come up with the perfect crime. So many devious ideas, yet somehow she didn't think about the existence of cctv or witnesses.

Taking the phone of the dead neighbour - several months earlier - heavy pre planning

Am surprised the Judge decided to ignore the earlier offence against her sister

I really wish whole life order/life without the possibility of parole was the default sentence for pre-meditated murder here in the UK. But 34 years will have to do.
