Police searching river Soar and canal in Leicester looking for missing Michal Zygan

Leicestershire Police has begun searching a city river and canal today in their hunt for a man who has been missing from home for a week.

Officers from the force’s Tactical Support Team are searching an area near a weir on the river Soar alongside the King Power stadium following the disappearance of Michal Zygan.

Michal left his home in Hopefield Road, Leicester, at around 7.30am last Wednesday, July 25 to go to work in nearby Percy Street and has not returned since.

Police have said Michal has not been missing before and it is out of character for him to not arrive at work.

“If anyone has any information about Michal or knows where he might be is asked to call police urgently on 101.”

Police searching river and canal to find missing man

This is local to me and used to commute down this very towpath in the late 90's. I'm really surprised they haven't found him or got any further in the case.

I'm particularly intrigued by an earlier article where Police suggest he may have taken Swan Street and Pingle Street. These two roads are full of businesses with CCTV and lead to a major/busy road (A50) at rush hour. Given the lack of sightings, and hoping he didn't end up in the river/canal, I would think it more likely he simply carried on walking along the towpath to Abbey Park or beyond. Much less likely to be seen/remembered IMO.

Hi Truth

Thanks for joining the thread. What is the general consensus there? Do most have an opinion on what may have happened to Michal?

I hear his poor sister is there from Poland. She must be going out of her mind :(

Sadly there is little consensus as the case is flying almost invisibly under the radar even on the local Leicester level..:( I only heard about the case from here...

Just Googling his name gives only 2 sources of info on page 1 (Leic Police and Leic Mercury) with this Websleuths thread and a few Polish sources on page 2.

How sad :( I only saw it as it had been shared into a FB group for the missing worldwide that I am in. But other than that, it's pretty sparse.

How sad.

Found off the coast of Kent, White cliffs?

RIP Michal, hope you are at peace now.

I'm in Rugby which isn't far from where he went missing. Sad to say I hadn't heard anything about his disappearance until now

So sorry to read this, rest in peace Michal, but, unlike others, he has been found. No huge comfort maybe, but better than living in limbo for years, or forever, like other families. :(
