The response from the local community is very heart warming. Sky news are interviewing people, one mum with her child in stroller is walking around the area helping to search. She says her "stomach is in knots" but wants to help to find him.

Twilight here. Lost most of the light. How's Scotland?

I'm 90 miles due south of Edinburgh and its now dusk. It will be dark within 20 mins or so.

What is the Child Rescue Alert?

The Child Rescue Alert (CRA) is a tool available to Senior Investigation Officers for use in abduction or kidnap cases involving a child. Its primary objective is to locate the child and bring them to safety by using media to promptly publish details surrounding the child’s disappearance

The public are asked to call 0300 2000 333 if they have any information that may help to locate the child. Only calls about a current CRA should be made to this number. The number is supplied by Cable and Wireless and is only available when a CRA has been activated.

The CRA is compatible with other European Child Alert systems which enable concurrent alerts to be launched across EU country borders.

BBM - ???!!!

:banghead: EVERY damn time!!! I wish UK police would stop with their instant 'wandered off' routines and tell people that there is a possibility of criminality - instead of always making out its innocent.
I had to turn the news off as the constant 'asking public to check their sheds and gardens' and if you see this child' speils... He is THREE YEARS OLD FFS. He wouldnt still be hiding. My 4 year old is the most precocious and outgoing child I have met and even she would have outed by now. :banghead:

I wonder how fast those front doors swing shut? A neighbour mentioned the children were often sitting on the stairs - Perhaps Mikaeel sneaked out of the apartment to play, and then went out of the main door behind someone else, who may not have even noticed. Mikaeel might have panicked then, not being able to get back in.

Amanda Spiers, 27, who lives nearby nearby, said she heard knocking at her door at 6.45am but did not answer the door because she lives alone with her children.
Another resident said he understood that police had taken fingerprints from the door in an effort to establish if it was Mikaeel.
Ms Spiers said: “There was no way I was answering the door. I looked through the spyhole and didn’t see anybody, but if it was the little boy I wouldn’t have seen him. I just hope it wasn’t him.

This bit is awful ... imagine the guilt you'd feel if it was him and he was trying to find his way home. I'm guessing there were no windows looking out onto the area where her door is.

Wonder what type of estate it is that a mum wouldn't answer her door - I would have just assumed it was one of the neighbours needing help at that time of the morning. Wouldn't occur to me to be suspicious. Its not even that early really, most people will be getting up to get ready for work/school run. Wonder if there is a history of crime or anti-social behaviour around that area?

Getting back on track, if it was Mikaeel knocking on the door, the timing suggests he may have slept in his bed during the night, and left the house early. I doubt a 3 year old would be roaming around the flats for 6 or so hours at night, in the temperatures we have having in the UK at present..... certainly not without someone hearing him.

From similar doors I've used they seem to close fast and then the last little bit goes much slower. It might be different with this one though.

It's getting so cold, there's a light but very cold wind. I'm in Glasgow but hear the weather is similar in Edinburgh right now.

Mikaeel is described as being of Asian appearance, two feet tall and of slim build. He was possibly wearing a thigh length beige jacket with grey fur lined hood, black gloves with multi-coloured fingers, dark navy blue jogging bottoms, a grey pyjama top featuring an embroidered turquoise dinosaur on the chest and brown Clark shoes with two Velcro straps.

He has a faded scar on the bridge of his nose and a sore on the left hand side of his mouth. The photograph of Mikaeel above, which was taken just prior to Christmas, has been widely circulated. His hair may be slightly longer than featured in the photograph.
