I wish they would stop reporting he is 2 feet/60cm tall, a newborn baby averages 50cm so it's just not possible! He is 3 feet tall and even that that is on the small side. The average height for a male child of 3y8m is 100cm (according to my red child health record book)

Heartening to see so many people at the community centre meeting. But (at least in the bit I saw on the news) I only saw white faces there. Are the Indian and Pakistani communities in Edinburgh not helping?

maybe I am cynical, but I want to know when he was last seen by anyone else.

That's my feeling as well. However, if something went wrong in the home or he has been harmed, he will still be somewhere and can hopefully be found.

I can think of so many other cases where the child has 'wandered off', often in very unusual circumstances, and when the truth is out the wandering is simply a ruse.

As darkness fell on another cold winter night in the Scottish capital, the search for the boy was being extended to the Firth of Forth, where lifeboats were scouring the shoreline.

Police said that Mikaeel, who is of British-Pakistani origin, may have still been in his pyjamas, which are embroidered with a distinctive turquoise dinosaur.

A hotline number - part of the nationwide Child Rescue Alert scheme - was established this afternoon so that anyone who believes they may have seen Mikaeel can get in touch. People returning home from work in the Pennywell, Muirhouse, Cramond and Drylaw areas of the city were urged to search any crevice or corner where a disorientated and hungry three-year-old might seek shelter and warmth.

It would have been "practically impossible" for three-year-old Mikaeel Kular to leave his home on his own, a missing persons expert has told Sky News.

John Moses, a former Royal Military Policeman and detective, said the evidence in the case pointed towards a "professional abduction".

Mr Moses, now a private missing person investigator, said that forensic officers would have established whether the boy's prints were on doors leading to the street.

Mr Moses said that the nature of the disappearance and fact that a body had not been found pointed to a possible abduction.

"An open mind is paramount. There's no body, so that indicates one more positive directive to actually suspect that this child has been professionally abducted," he said.

Mikaeel could not have left alone

I also wonder if "something went wrong in the home" which I assume the police are working on. However, a quick sniff of the family car would probably have shown something up if that were the case.

I hope they checked inside the foxes den. I say that because it would be warm, dry and out the wind etc.

This is a 3yr old boy thats supposedly got up through the night, put a jacket, shoes n maybe gloves on, unlocked his front door, opened it, shut it behind himself, went down to a big heavy block door and then opened that and then went for a wander in the pitch black with no one about. Im just not seeing it sorry, not now the more i think about it.
He would have been spotted, either by a passer by or on cctv, something. I doubt very much if he would have been walking about in the bushes or woods etc, he would have stuck to paths and light.

Anyone with information is urged to call 0300 200 0200 immediately

Mikaeel is 2ft tall and described as being of Asian appearance and of slim build.

He was possibly wearing a thigh length beige jacket with grey fur lined hood, black gloves with multi-coloured fingers, dark navy blue jogging bottoms, a grey pyjama top featuring an embroidered turquoise dinosaur on the chest and brown Clark shoes with two Velcro straps.

He has a faded scar on the bridge of his nose and a sore on the left hand side of his mouth
