Thomas Mair has been given a whole of life sentence after being found guilty after the jury was out for only an hour.

"Before sentencing, Mair asked to speak to the courtroom but the judge said he had already had an opportunity and declined." Quite rightly so, don't give the cretin a platform.

Judge Mr Justice Wilkie said the murder was carried out to advance a political cause of violent white supremacism, associated with Nazism.

He said the aggravating feature was the premeditation and planning over weeks, in which he researched his intended victim, the past assassination of a serving MP and matricide, knowing Mrs Cox was the mother of young children.

The judge sentenced Mair to life imprisonment, with a whole life term.

He said he had concluded that the offence was so exceptional that Mair could only be released by the home secretary.

[FONT=&amp]Bernard Kenny, the man hailed a hero for trying to prevent the murder of the MP Jo Cox, has died aged 79.

[FONT=&amp]Kenny, who was awarded the George Medal for bravery, died at his home on Monday, his son Phil said. Kenny was diagnosed with cancer in June.

[FONT=&amp]The former miner was seriously injured when he was stabbed as he tried to stop rightwing extremist Thomas Mair attacking Cox in Birstall, West Yorkshire, in June last year.
