A 57-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after an altercation on a cruise ship in which another man, 60, died.

Police rushed to the Southampton Docks on Monday morning to arrest the Exeter resident, after the cruise ship returned to shore.

The 60-year-old man died on the MSC Virtuosa after an altercation on Saturday evening shortly after the ship left Southampton, police said. The ship returned to the city on Monday after the death on British waters, before police arrested the suspect.

The man who died following an alleged altercation on a luxury cruise ship was said to have been celebrating a stag do with pals before a row broke out.

That must have been wild for the crew. Someone dies in an altercation on Saturday night and you don't return to port until Monday?
It must also have been awful for the other passengers whose holiday must have been spoilt by the behaviour of a group of people which ultimately led to the stabbing

A second man has been arrested after a 60-year-old man died following an altercation on a cruise ship.

James Messham, from West Sussex, was reported dead about two-and-a-half hours after MSC Virtuosa departed Southampton on 3 May.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said a 56-year-old man from Richmond, London, had been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.

A 57-year-old man from Exeter, Devon, who was arrested on suspicion of murder on 5 May was released on bail.

Unfortunately, this is not entirely unexpected since it involved a stag group on a booze cruise with the sole intentions of getting absolutely bladdered and (probably) going to a brothel or strip joint.

It doesn't exactly surprise me, either, that MSC was the cruise line involved since they are pretty much in the bilges of the cruise industry.

Seems like there should be an update by now. It should be fairly straightforward with so many witnesses and I'm assuming surveillance video on the ship.
